Does the 3.4 require pcm tuning after ........
Does the 3.4 require pcm tuning after ........
I installed pacesetter headers, flowmaster catback, k&n cai, asp underdrive pulleys, and 180 t-stat last week on my '95 3.4. I got rid of the a.i.r. equipment since the headers had no provisions for it. The car seems to fall on its face down low and doesn't pull up top until 3,000 rpms or so. There is a service engine light that goes on and off and it seems like the car is starving for fuel. Are these bolt-ons too much for the stock injectors and is there anybody that can tune the 3.4?
Re: Does the 3.4 require pcm tuning after ........
only one. http://www.fastchip.com/
I have the same bolt ons as you (except 160* stat and pulleys) and I get pretty good low end response. My car doesn't have A.I.R though, maybe there's a diff. between 94 and 95??? My fuel is richer than it should be, so I should get a 180*, so I'm not sure why yours would be starving for fuel, it should be getting slightly more, but still it sounds like your 3.4 isn't performing as well as it should.....but we're talking 3.4 capabilities here.
Did you swap the alternator pulley with an underdrive in your UD pulley kit? I did that once and it killed my performance because of the lower voltage.

I spoke with someone from fastchip and he said that he was able to tune the pcm for stock injectors; nothing bigger and/ or aftermarket. What size are they 16, 17 lbs.? You're right maybe I'm getting too much fuel plus the car does smell rich. How much horse do you think the stock injectors can handle? I didn't think I'd have any problems with a few bolt-ons. I'm sending the pcm out tomorrow and should have it back by next week. Until then I'll just keep my fingers crossed and hope this solves the problem. By the way I have the alt/ ud pulley kit from asp with no charging problems so far. Later.
Re: Does the 3.4 require pcm tuning after ........
i wouldn't say you're getting too much, maybe just a little more. I am more than likely getting too much. Tomorrow, probably, I'm swapping in a 180*.
Re: Does the 3.4 require pcm tuning after ........
With those mods., tuning is not required but it may help extract a couple more ponies and improve drivability. However, it sounds like you have another problem going on there and a PCM tune will not help that.
Re: Does the 3.4 require pcm tuning after ........
I started wrench'n on the car again yesterday. Come to find out there was a loose connector underneath the coil packs. I also pulled the upper intake to find that the gasket was dryrotted. I've decided to replace all the gaskets and should be receiving my pcm back any day now. Somebody from Fastchip called me yesterday and said that he couldn't delete the egr codes from the pcm. I'm not sure why but it doesn't really matter at this point. Hopefully I'll have everything back together over the weekend. Thanks to everyone who responded.
