cut-out on v6

Friend of mine in our local club is interested in putting a cut-out on her car. I was just wondering if anyone has ever put one on a v6 car. her's is like a 98+ camaro. I just want to know what she should expect.

Thanks.
Chris

expect it to be loud and annoying. some people actually like it and convince themselves that their V6 sounds like a V8. in reality their car sounds like azz, but nobody seems to hear it other than the people who dont own the car (which is the rest of the world) i say put it on and enjoy the loudness- i did, but when a total stranger came up to me in a parking lot and told me "dude, your car sounds like shlt" i quickly realized what everybody else was hearing. is it going to make her car sound good-no, is it going to make her faster-no, is it going to make people look at your car and make faces-yes. what exactly is she looking for?

More than likely, its going to be far too loud, even if it's behind the catalytic converter. I've yet to meet a girl that likes even aggressive mufflers much less a cut out.

But, a few have installed cut-outs. An electric one runs about 300 bucks.

I got mine from www.quicktimeperformance.com It ran me $185.00 and I think it sounds pretty good when open only half way. But like Nino said, everyone else probably thinks it sounds like a weedeater on steroids?! My friends at work all say it sounds pretty mean, but they might say that just to be nice. Try it out....you can always remove it and sell it to someone who has an LS1

Running open headers and running mufflers sound totally different. People today with smog legal catalytic converter cars dunno what performance is and should sound like.

A V6 with open headers is deep, low rumble. And for anyone not into performance, an open header car they may say 'sounds like crap' only to mean to them its too freaking loud. Open headers don't have much backpressure, so you shouldn't be getting any pops, or backfires, (unless timing is off) It's just plain loud.

When I run the Z28 with open headers. Anyone standing inside about 30 foot radius will literally feel the car running by vibration in the street into soles of their shoes. A slight blip of the throttle makes most people cringe and slam their fingers into their ears.

I ran my V6 with an open cataylitic converter. I didn't get on it like that. But for parking lot duty it sounded T-O-U-G-H !!!

yeah he isnt lying about the "feel the car through your shoes" part. This guy came through the drivethrough the other night, and it was an LS1 and the pipe stopped at the headers. He was so loud that we couldnt take orders untill he finally ripped out of the parking lot. MY friend danny got up with him and talked to him about it, so thats how I know where the pipes ended at. And that was a NICEEEEEEEEEEEEE car too.

yea no doubt, i talked to him. it was an LS1 w/ headers, and a Y-pipe, to nothing. It soundsed like a NASCAR no lie. It was bad as ****.

A couple guys i know ran open exhausts on their cars except they were an 86 and 87 IROC. My freind with the 87 ran straight intermedate pipe and it sounded real bad a**. My buddy with the 86 had his uncle put headers on the car with extensions and you really could feel the car coming up the street. Although both cars had the 305 in them, i think the 86 sounded better, cause it had one of the few L69s of the year. The problem was tickets, drivign the car after 9 pm is a no go anywhere near a residential neighborhood.

I thought about putting a cut out on my car, but i'm not sure i deal with the stairs of people who think my car is broken.

from idle to about 2000 my cut-out sounds pretty good AND its definately faster w/it open...i can feel a difference, and i dont have any really hard evidence but ive only made one run w/it closed and a lot w/it open and i gained .1 w/it open...the SOTP feel is enough for me to run it open at the track though...

when all i had was a intake/exhaust and a cutout my times where consistant like a ****. with it capped i would run 15.5 @ 88 mph, with it open i would run 15.5 @ 90 mph. that is the difference i saw, but then i started adding mods and becoming less consistant. at idle it sounds "cool" if you will, but once you get on it it sounds like azz imo.
what gets me is the guys that get cut outs and convincce themselves that their car sounds like a V8. it doesnt- it sounds like it has a cutout and thats it. have you heard my car? the video i have up doesnt sound like a V8- it sounds like i have an exhaust leak. but to the unknowing, it sounds "oohh neato beato"
