Cruise control woes

Question for the camaro gods. The other day I noticed that my cruise control was not working. Is there any fuses or self diagnostics that I can look at to avoid taking it to the dealer. I only have powertrain coverage so I am thinking its going to be expensive. thanks for any help you can provide. Oh ya, I have a 98 v6 with no mods as of yet.

That's a good question. Mine is intermittent. Most of the time it won't work, but once in a while it works. I haven't found the problem yet....

edit - Mine's a '98 too....

My cruise control isnt working either. This past weekend I replaced the fuses relating to it under the hood and still nothing. My ABS light is coming on also. Does that have anything to do with it? When I replaced the fuse the ABS light went out but came back on 5 seconds later..so I think the fuse blew again. Anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated because it sucks driving on the interstate without it! Thanks!

start with checking gages 10 amp fuse #9, stop hazard 20 amp fuse #6 in the inner panal box and Ac/Criuse fuse in the under hood elec center.

thats the simple stuff.. after that it gets complicated to diaignose. but if you have the tools and basic elec system knowladge I can walk you through it

Thanks for the help. I never did check the fuses on the inner panel because I didnt think any of them had to do with the cruise control. I only replaced the ones under the hood according to my manual. Like I said, the ABS light keeps coming on and it shut off for a few seconds after replacing it and then came back on. I will give it a try this weekend when I can get ahold of some fuses. Thanks again.

The brake switch behind the pedal is wired to your cruise control. The ideal adjustment allows you to barely touch the brake to disengage the cruise control but not have the rear brake lights come on. Take your foot and lift up on the brake pedal. If cruise control engages, you know your brake switch is either fubar or out of adjustment.

yeah i have the same problem, mine works then it doesnt, but i suggested lifting the brake pedal with my foot (which works) and recieved replies such as "your brake pedal is on the floor... sounds like a serious problem" im glad that someone else knows what i was talking about. but yes try lifting the pedal, it works for me. btw, how do you adjust the sensor to fix this problem?

usualy the switch has threads on it so you can screw and unscrew to adjust teh location. what I do it pull it out till itls not making contact with the brake pedle then screw it in just untill the buttin is compleatly compressed by th pedle and see how that works. the switch is usualy plastic and they tend to strip, if thats the case it;s time for a new one
