coolant leak at rear of motor
Hello,
I need some help. I have a '94 3.4L Camaro with an auto trans. We have coolant leaking from the bottom of the bellhousing. I can only trace it as far up as the back of the oil pan on the driver's side. I can see droplets move around where the pan/block kinda' meets the bell. Then the leak runs down the bell and drips out where the bell vent is.
Even with a telescoping mirror, I can't see much. I couldn't feel wetness above that oil pan/bell junction when reaching from below the car or from above.
I'm kinda stumped as to what the source is. Are there any freeze plugs up there (not sure why one would leak - I live in the desert. It was 90* today). Are intake gaskets on 3.4's known to leak? Other options or possibilities?
Any pointed or random thoughts are very much appreciated! Thank you.

Re: coolant leak at rear of motor
very well could be a freeze plug...
had a 1990 formula rear freeze plug go out once... had to drop the transmission and fly wheel to get to it.. there was 2 there... I replaced both of them with brass plugs..
main culprit of failing freezeplugs is deterioation.. rust.... using water instead of mix of anti-freeze... etc...

Thank you for the reply. :nice:
Any guesses on a way to narrow things down. It would obviously be two different tear downs for a freeze plug vs an intake gasket.
I won't be able to see dye and cant think of what else to use to diagnose it (I have a cooling-system pressure tester if anyone can think of how that'd help. I can't).
Thanks again for the reply!
