Coil Pack & dielectric grease
Coil Pack & dielectric grease
Doing a tuneup to a new (to me) 2000 V6 Camaro. The 3 coils are bolted thru what I will call a "coil plate" that is part metal and part plastic approx 4" wide by 10" long, which in turn sets on a completely metal plate about the same dimensions that is attached to the motor.
As I re-assemble the coils & plate, where does the dielectric grease go...? Be specific, as I can see that possibly one could grease both sides of this plate..
BTW, my Helm manual is not due to arrive till Wed, but I can't wait to put it back together.

Re: Coil Pack & dielectric grease
Not familiar with the v6 ignition but usually you just put the grease on the terminals and the plug ends. basically helps the electricity jump the gap and helps the boots from sticking to the plug and coil terminal. i cant see any reason to put grease on the mounting plates but again ive never actually seen the v6 ignition.
Re: Coil Pack & dielectric grease
put some of the grase on the metallplate! It's like a heatsink compound similar to the stuff that you use between your cooler and the CPU on the mainboard....
I think you means this.......?
Because the plate under the three coils is the housing from the ignition module - and this needs a very good cooling surface to transfer the heat away
