Angry clicky

The past couple of mornings when I've gone to start my car it makes this loud clicking sound (which comes from under the hood) a couple of times before the car actually starts. This morning it did the same thing, only it clicked a bunch of times and then it died, or at least it seemed it did. Everything went off in the car and I thought I had a dead battery, I took the keys out of the ignition, put them in again as to start the car and suddenly everything in my car had power again. Now I was really confused, so I try to start my car again, it does the same thing. After maybe 4 or 5 tries to start my car I am able to get the engine running and drive home. Has anyone ever had something like this happen to them? Could it be the alternator? The starter?
