I just bought a 99 firebird this afternoon. I know nothing about the V6. The check gauges light came on while i was at the gas station. I was low on gas (thats why i was there) but is this what caused the light to come on. I now have a sweet ride while i am working on my Z28. Also is 10 grand too high for a 99 with 22K. I have credit problems so i was at their mercy. Thanks

Yes, if you are too low on gas, it will trigger the "Check Gauges" light.

$10K for a 99 V6 Firebird is definetely too much, even if the miles are low. But, as long as you are happy with it and the payments, that's all that matters.

It means check your gauges. I've been pretty low on gas and it has never come on. Only time it came on was when my alternator went out. I checked the guages, volt meter was down.

 

I also had one when my alt. went on me. Is this true about the the fuel gauge being low?? I've never heard this

 

my camaro did the same thing w/ the alt. i was comin home one night and it came on the the next day the car didn't start

 

The light has come on twice since my original post. I get gas and it goes off. When i am getting gas i have about 1/2 of a gallon. Put a full tank a couple of days ago and no light. Still got pretty much a full tank.

 

1/2 gallon? You should seriously NOT run your car down to that low amount of fuel.

Maybe the check gauge does come on when it gets that low...I've never let it get that far. Most I've ever had to put in my car was ALMOST 13 gallons.

 

check guages came on when my alternator died. and it comes on if u get low enough on gas, IIRC under 1 gallon?? mine has came on 3 times, 1 for alt. and 2 other times when i was very low on gas. but my car is funny, my SES light is on once i hit the brakes once, and my secrurity light comes on alot

 

Dudes listen up! The check guages light comes on when your low on gas on the 98 & up camaros. Don't worry man it's completely normal.
