Check Engine Light?
Check Engine Light?
Allright, here's the situation. V6 2001 Camaro has about 89,000 miles
Put a high-flow cat on it.
Engine light comes on. Result: Too much runnin through the cat. And 02 Sensor after the cat is setting it off.
Put an 02 Simulator after the cat hopin it'll go away.
Doesn't. Result Too much runnin through the cat and now both 02 sensors are triggering the light
Put a 02 Simulator before the cat hoping it'll go away.
Doesn't.
Does any have any suggestions.

put your sensor back in the pre-cat bung. computer uses its readings to help adjust AF ratios. I put a plug in mine and car ran insanely rich. general concensus is that the O2 sims wont fix the SES light problem on 2000+ cars. If you get in before the endo of the month, there is a GP on HP Tuners tuning through Texas Speed and Performance. $275 plus cheap updates for life. They can take care of the light plus some.
When I put the 02 Simulator on after the cat the computer said something about the wattages from the 02 Sensor in the front wasn't matchin with the Simulator. Does this mean I need to get my 02 Sensor in the front replaced? Plus I don't live anywhere near TX if anyone knows a place closer to CT let me know.
Thanks,
Paul
Thanks,

I dont know about the wattage compatability. thats the first Ive heard of anybody giving that specific of a diagnosis of the probem. I know my scan tool is a lot more genaric than that and wont give me value readings from the sensors.
If you are interested in the tuning, Texas Speed is doing it by mail... you send them your pcm, the write a tune for your mods, flash the pcm and overnight it (included in cost) back to you. Im sending mine next week and they promised a 2-3 day total downtime, ie. send it Tuesday and have it back by THurseday or Friday. Seems the best option to take care of the high-flow cat/SES light and speedo recalibration due to gear/tire swap... plus the rest of the stuff you get with it.

Let me guess...high voltage from the 02 sim?
99+ have problems with aftermarket cats...sims don't always solve it. Sometimes...not always.
I know a fix for it...have to find it.
I'll look for you.

Yeah he was tellin me that there was high wattage coming from the 02 Sim.
Anyways.... I put the 02 Sensor back into the socket and this is what happened:
Now the car is totally acting weird. When you turn the key foward to turn on all the gauges the Check Engine Light comes on and stays on while all the other lights go off. But as soon as you start the car the light goes off. What could be causing this?

To my knowledge when you turn the key to have power to the car you will get the ses light because you have modified
you exaust, usually the dealership can turn it off or something like that. now if you have the car on and are driving around with the ses light on then something is wrong and you need to get
your car scanned for codes, auto zone does it for free.

Pabz, I thought I responded to this, but it was a different post. Oops...
Basically, 00+ have stage 2 cats. Stage 2 cats heat up quicker, reducing emissions. All aftermarket cats are stage 1...same as the earlier 4th gens. The o2 sim usually fixes this...usually. 00+ guys with aftermarket cats seem to get the SES...I'd say 80%.
It was mentioned that you can try an o2 for the 97 Grand Prix and see if that might work...if not, you'll either have to live with the SES (not an option if you have to take emission testing) or re-install the stock cat.
Sorry for the delay...been busy with finals and work.
Re: Check Engine Light?
Ok here's the update...
Bought a Caspers Simulator for the O2 Sensor in the back
Put in new 02 Sensors in the front
Trouble Codes that popped up -
P0132 Bank 1 Sensor 1 High Voltage
P0138 Bank 1 Sensor 2 High Voltage
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

Back to the same problem with high wattage coming from the 02 simulator.
