Catalyic converter

Well, was just wondering about that damn catalyic converter. Because I had a diagnostic check on my car and turned out that my catalyic converter was going bad. Or at least that's they told me. because I had a bad vibration going on in my car and thought maybe it was the drive shaft. plus at the same time i had a bad loss of power. So I replaced the wires the plugs and the coil. and soon as I got it back it ran great. But had a sound to it. When you would give it some gas It would make a air leak type of sound. They said it was my converter. And that I should get it replaced. Still havn't done that yet. Now it runs alright. not like it did though when i replaced the plugs the wires and the coil though. but runs alright. So will be replacing the converter and if still doesn't run right. y'all got any suggestions. any help would be appreciated thanks. peace

Does Utah check emissions? If not, you'd be better off putting a patch pipe in place of the cat and getting some O2 simulators. You'll pick up a few extra horse and it'll be a lot cheaper than a new converter.

summitracing.com has some hi flow cat converters cheap.

Wheather they check emissions or not, it wouldn't pass the visual inspection w/out a cat. Not to mention, if you run into a bunghole for a cop and he sees no cats, you'll get ticketed. I've seen cops go all over cars looking for something to write up before. Granted we were out racing.

I've had no cat on my car for almost two years and I've never had a problem. In Florida there are no emission inspections at all, so there's never a visual check on the car. I don't bother racing my V6 because it's just slow no matter what you do to it

I've got a '94 V6 - took the CC off of it and put pipe in place of it. No inspections here in GA, so no problems there. It has ran fine, no SES codes, nothing.

Since you only have a '94 too, you won't have to worry with 02 sims - no after cat sims on your car.

It's definitely your cat. I had the same exact sound days before mine clogged up almost shut. Did you have alot of missfires. Those can ruin the cat. Replace it now with a 3" catco. My car wouldn't even go over 3K rpm and it accelerated like a 2 cylinder.

Ya, well unfortunatley utah does do the emissions test and the safety test. Yep when I rev the car it does give the backfire. So just gotta decide which converter i'll be wanting to go with. just hoping that once it's in that the car will be running supreme again. If not then will be having some more troubleshooting to do. But thanks for the reply's. peace.
