car wont start
car wont start
hey, my uncle gave me a 94 camaro and im not too farmiliar with it but i like it a lot, but now it wont start. the car cranks, the thing i notice the car does is that when i crank it while flooring the gas it starts for about 1 second and blows a lot of gas or exhaust through the egr valve, and makes a very loud kinda deep whistle sound.i replaced the egr valve but with a used one, i also replaced the gasket, and then i tried cleanin the egr valve itself while apart wit carb cleaner but none of it did anything. i got the car to start once and it idled fine but if i gave it any gas at all it made that noise. its a stock 94 3.4 manual tranny.
thanx in advance for any help

Re: car wont start
now that u mentioned injectors, there was a problem with that too, rats ate some of the wires and a mechanic fixed them, but in a real ghetto way, i was pretty sure he left something wrong but when i said the car started and idled smoothly was after he did that job. could that be it if they are wired wrong or something?

yup, rats. i noticed somethin else now. after buying a brand new egr valve i tried starting it, i thought i might have flodded the engine so then i took out one of the spark plugs, and i noticed it was completely dry and dark, i thought that had to be somethin weird cause i did the same thing on my old car and the plugs came out soaked in gas. any suggestions or is that ever normal?
Re: car wont start
sounds like following Morb|d's advice is the next thing to try.
you can check FP on top of the intake. you can use a noid light for checking injector pulse.
i might also ground a plug and plug wire to ensure that you do have spark (for peace of mind - then you know that you have spark).
good luck.

i would be systematic about it - tossing parts at it can get really expensive.
just my thoughts. good luck.
Re: car wont start
My 90 firebird wouldnt start after sitting for a few months after wasting the money on ignition module i decided to spend a 6 bucks and get some cheap autolite plugs, put them in and it fired right up.
Re: car wont start
i just re-read this, and im wondering if Javelin is not onto something. i did not realize that it can catch for a second. question for y'all: im a mustang guy, and not too conversant with the camaro stuff - on stang EEC-IV puters, flooring the gas cuts injector pulse, in order to clear flooding.
now this goes against your observations of dry plugs....but you will need plugs anyhow (one cheap variable to eliminate).
good luck.
