cant go past 85, flashing ses

Hey evryone, my buddies camaro is acting up. He has a newer v6, it is a 5 speed manual and stock everything. His car wont go past 85 and cant shift into 5. While hes at or near 85 the ses blinks but then when he slows down everything is fine. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Have you guys tried unplugging the VSS and then tried driving?

sounds like someone changed the govenor on the car, or maybe added some really steep gears.

the ses flashing means that you have a strong enough missfire to cause catylest damadge. you need to see if there are any other coded to start with and go from there.. of not then you ahve to start looking at plugs, wires, coils, Modules, fuel pressure, injectors, compression ect ect ect

EDIT.. if I was still living in charlotte I would give you a hand. also since you have a 96 you can get it scanned at auto zone to check for codes.. with OBDII you migh get a P030X code and will tell you what cyl/ cyls are missing P0301 cyl 1 P0302 is cyl 2 ect ect ect

Hey yea...we did the VSS already and nothin. I told him that the blinking ses light means a serious miss fire. But what would cause the car not to shift into 5th? Syncro?
