Most CAIs have that description. A lot of those on ebay are used ones. IMO thats a good way to go because air filters don't get a lot of wear and tear as opposed to something like an engine. A lot of people like the k&n CAI (FIPK i think its called).

i really don't see how this is a CAI unit. it doesn't say or picture anything about a scoop that routes down under the car to get a cold air charge. looking at the pic, i would think it'd just suck in air from the engine bay, which is hot. (relative)

k&n makes a similar system, (fipk i think) which puts that cone filter inside a scoop, and under the car...that makes more sense to me!

Looks almost custom/home made.

That looks like it might be slightly better then the stock air intake but you might as well get a good one if your going to change it.

My filter is in the same location, though I do have 3 in. piping all the way to the TB, and my filter is about twice that size.

Mine seems to work, when I put the stocker in for a bit my car was running really slow even with a new unused filter.

Most CAI go down a little bit further than what I have seen. Looks very similiar to a couple of homemade jobs and they do just fine.

The other CAI's are overpriced....you probably couldn't make one for much cheaper than that really. Only difference might be a better filter.

Let's get one thing straight here...

None of the 93-97 CAI kits come with such a "scoop". They just put the filter inside the fenderwell and away from the engine heat.

You can make/buy the scoop yourself, though.

i have a 96 bird with Y87 and I'm almost 100% positive that my intake comes from the driver's side fender well. It comes from the fender well into a box of some kind (has wires on it) then into the air box with the filter. I recently bought some POS chrome intake of Ebay for like $50. Said it was for a 4th gen V6 bird. When I got it, it looked almost exactly like the one pictured above. I installed it. The chrome pipe was smaller then the stock plastic pipe going to the throttle body area. So I had to really screw the s#it out of that rubber clamp thingy to get a good seal. Anyway..... the point..... the conical filter just kinda butts up against the box with the wires on it. So the intake is basically now in the engine instead of the driver's side fender well...... a hot air intake if you ask me. I'm I making any sense?
