Bad News

Driving down the road, I happen to look down to check out my gauges and i noticed my car was getting warm..i thougt driving down the road it souldnt be that high, but i stoped to see if maybe my fan wasnt kicked in , it was but my car continued to get hotter, so i pulled of the teh road at once and shut it off, the gauge was pegged out! I opened the hood and let it set for a bit cheked the anitfrezze , it was all good, so i thought maybe a thermo. but then i heard this wonderful sound a WOW im leaking antifreze on the ground! It is dripping off the front of the trans. Is it a freeze plug or what else could it be down and back there, the top of the engine looks god andd clean! Any ideas before i have to drop the trans?

If the chassis is dry and the firewall is dry on the right side, then it probably a freeze plug.

If the right side is wet, could be a hose or heater core.

But its not a water pump, that is leaking. It could be bad, and that's the root cause of the overheating.....but not the leak.

I'm having the same problem, leaking antifreeze and engine gettin pretty hot. Does the temp go up and down or just stay up high?? Also, is your antifreeze gettin onto the belt at all?? mine is and its makin a bit of a mess!! Let me know if you figure out the problem cuz i need to fix this ASAP...I'm thinking about takin it to the shop to get them to find the problem.

As everyone else has said, it could be the water pump. My car gets really hot at stop lights because my car idles high and i haven't had time to fix it yet. I installed a manual fan switch a while ago and it seems to work really good when the car gets hot. Just flip the switch, and the car is back down to normal temp in 30 seconds

same EXACT thing happened to my 94 v6. Turned out that I had popped three freeze plugs back there. I didn't have the ability to do the work myself.

Mechanic friend lifted the car, and you could see plain as day that I had three holes in the back of the engine near the tranny, and they were dripping.

So we replaced the three plugs and not a problem since. I'm still not sure what caused the initial problem. All I know is the car overheated on the way to work, dash said check guages. Checked guage saw it was overheating, pulled into a post office parking lot. called my boss, said I would be late, heard the pop sound and saw the anitfreeze on the ground.

Hope that helps.

he did have to drop the tranny. Only way to get tools into the areas that needed to be worked on.

Do yourself a favor. Trust me on this one. Get that car on a lift and do the work, otherwise you'll not have enough room to work in.
