I have a 94 firebird with the 3.4 and I raced my buddy in his 95 firebird with the 3.4 with a 5 speed. Both cars have 3:23 gears. Mine is in good tune no codes, completely stock. The 95 runs ok has a code and is stock also. Well, we raced and the 95 tore me up. Are all auto 3.4 slower then the 5 speed. Or is there soemthing wrong with mine. I even drove the 95 around and it feels so much stronger.

Well you have to know, all cars are different, one can be porely taken care of, another could have been beaten to the dirt... Heck even my car misteriously loses about 20 HP and then regains it back like nothing even happened. No misfires or codes, just real sluggish when I hit the pedal, then something will kick and all my power returns...Originally Posted by Duke901

That sluggish feeling you say then suddenly kicks in is when the car down shifts and it don't down shift all the time when you press on the gas somewhat. At 35 mph or less I think it is you just need to press the pedal half way and then it will down shift but if your doing more than that you have to press the pedal I think all the way or most of the way down to down shift so you wont get that kick all the time.

If the stick driver is good, his car will usually be faster. Manuals are more efficient, so they put more power to the ground.Originally Posted by Duke901

As Tru2Chevy said manuals put more power to the ground. Did you stall your car or anything in the race? or did you just hit it off the line? Did you spin any?
