Anyone had there 3.8 start knocking?

My parents bought a 99 camaro with the 3.8L series II. The car had 80k on it and last night after my father got into it a little it began to knock. Its knocking really bad so i'm sure it spun a bearing.

Anyone else had this problem or anything similar?

Thanks
Travis

Thanks for the reply.

But my dad went ahead and finished the motor off last night. It threw the rod out the side of the block.

I'm kinda disappointed in the car only having 80k on it and throwing a rod

Either it was beaten by the previous owner and not kept up, or just a case of bad luck. 3.8's supposedly last forever.

I would guess a little of both is why it happend.I really havent heard of any problems with the 3.8 .
I guess the car lot is gonna have a crate motor put in it since it was covered under a warranty still. So i guess it'll work out as long as they replace it.

Wow, I have never heard of that kind of failure in an engine that young. That is definitly a rarity. I hope everything works out for you though.
