alternator question

Ok, i was coming home from school tonight when the check gadges light comes on, on the dashboard. I look at all my gadges to see what the problem was. My battery gadge was down in the red secion about 1/4 of the way from the 8 volts marker. Does it sound like the alternator went? Tomorrow when its light i'll have to go out and check to see if the battery is charging when the car is on.

thanks

Cool

Yep,that's what it sounds like.Start the car and disconnect the battery,if the car dies, bad alt,if it stays running, bad battery.Good luck, and get a lifetime warranty with that new or rebuilt alt,our cars seem to eat them up!

I had the same problem with mine, check gauges and battery gauge. All it was, was a bad alt.
Mine cost about $90.
Do you have any kind of stereo system in your car??

Well, just as a note, if its the alternator and it blows soon within the next few hundred-thousand miles, you have a short in the battery, like I did went through 3 alternators before I figured it out!

Thank god my battery was under warrenty from NAPA, so it covered the new alternator.

P.S. Napa says that I am no longer warrentied at that store LOL
