Red face accelleration problem

When I hit the gas really hard the car stalls for a split second, then jerks and muffles before it spins the tires and accellorates. A friend said it might be in need of a new fuel filter, but I just got my oil change and I think they put one on, but I'm not sure. Does anyone have any ideas on what the probablem might be? It's getting cold here in minnesota, so could that be a problem, it was 18 degrees today, it's use to above 30.

THanks!

when was the last time you changed your plugs & wires, or it could be a fuel filter , (ive never heard of an oil change place doing that before , but i change my own) or the cold weather could have froze some water in the gas line , how long did you drive it , i would say take a long drive ans see if taht dosent help any

Get an ignition up grade or a plug in box that you plug into your throttel body and it reprograms your cars computer get it from from summit and it's made by casper eletronics.

i think that's how the cars behave. I've replaced the the fuel filter, air filter, tried using fuel injector cleaner numerous times, with no pisitive results. i haven't gotten to the plugs/wires/ignition stuff yet, mainly because i'm not in the mood to spend a good 2-3 hours and get a bunch of cuts, nuckle bruises to replace the plugs/wires, or because of cost for the ignition upgrades.

btw, do you notice that the car doesn't jerk or stutter as much when it is cold as opposed to when its all warmed up?

actually i just called summit and checked with a sales rep. they don't seem to have any 3.8l, 1996+ TPS enhancers listed anywhere.

anyone know if one of the ones listed works with our cars? or maybe there is another brand/place that carries these...

where do you get the ignition coils? And are the spark plugs going to really make a difference over the stock ones?

any auto parts store. $22 i think i paid for mine- one of them. and yes your spark plugs will make a difference. especially if you are still using the ones that came with the car stock! i change my plugs every chance i get.

If you're going to take the time to install plug wires, which sounds like the culprit, invest in some Accel Extreme 8mm and get some heat shielding from Summit to protect the wires from the heat. I've had to replace my wires 5 times since I've had the car and it's a 99'. If you're replacing the wires, change the plugs too. That's like taking a shower and putting dirty underwear on if you don't change the plugs too.

It would cause a lean mixture not a rich mixture.

IT sounds like you might need a tune-up.
