98+ driveshafts

Are the 98+ V6 cars drive shafts 2 or 1 piece? And are they aluminum? I have a chance to get a 2000 v6 firebird shaft for free pretty much and im wondering if is the 2 piece like the older cars or if its the same as the LS1 shaft?

Sorry i dont really know much about the 6 cyls really..

Damn now that i look, i should have probally put this in the V6 section...sorry fellas

Re: 98+ driveshafts

I think the stock v6 is 2 piece steel and the v8 is 1 piece aluminum, correct me if I'm wrong. You can install either on either though. Aluminum would be the way to go to get less rotational mass and plant more on the ground.

Re: 98+ driveshafts

thats what i was trying to figure out if the v6 driveshafts were the same as the LS1 shafts. I want to find an LS1 shaft and put it on a LT1 car

Thanks

Re: 98+ driveshafts

if the v6 cars have a 2 piece shaft, then im not going to get it. It will probally work, but the LT1 cars have a steel one, and i wanted the LS1 shaft. I was just wondering if the 98+ V6 shafts were the same as the LS1 shafts...

Sorry i had a typo on my previous reply

Re: 98+ driveshafts

I'm pretty sure that the 99+ v6 cars got the 1 piece steel shaft, while all early v6s got the 2 piece steel.

99+ LS1s all got 1 piece aluminum, some 98 LS1s (mostly the cars with 2.73 gears) got steel 1 piece shafts.

Re: 98+ driveshafts

no, the 99 V6 has the two piece design too - except the 5 speed!

but an aluminium shaft fits with all years and transmissions off the 4th gen
