94 3.4 L to 95 LT1 conversion
Hello,
I have a 94 3.4 L camaro that i'm going to put a 95 5.7 L LT1 engine into. I have purchased the engine and automatic transmission with the ECM, wiring harness, a/c condenser, alternator, exhaust manifolds and power steering pump. I have also purchased the radiator, shroud w/ fans, drive shaft, shocks, springs and fuel pump. I think the K-member needs to be swithced, but i'm not sure. I would greatly appreciate any help on what else I needs to be purchased to make the swap. Thanks.

It looks to me like you have pretty much everything needed to do the swap other than the K-member as your mentioned. The engine sits differently... If I recall correctly another board member who'd done the swap said that it looked as though the V6 K-member would work with some modification but I would think it to be safer to look around in the F/S section here or at a local junkyard to pick one up. I was able to purchase the K-member out of a '96 Trans Am fairly cheap... shipping was fairly high though due to the size/weight.
Thanks for the information. I've spent about $2,500.00 so far. I still need to purchase the k member. I'm thinking about an aftermarket one or purchasing one from a salvage yard. Any ideas on what would work best? I also still need to purchase a cat back exhaust system. I think I might go with Hooker headers and cat back exhaust. Any suggestions?
Is it necessary to replace the instrument panel? Thanks.

There is a guy in the For Sale section that has a tubular k-member for the LT1 for just 250 bucks plus shipping. I'd see if he'd sold it yet or not. Thats a great deal.... if you have the cash to spare 500 for a new one may be worth it to you. Save the pain of pulling the stock K-member in the future and just drop the tubular setup right off... it'll open up space if you plan on running LT headers in the future. I should've went the route of buying a complete package that included the engine/trans/pcm/accessories but I've spent about 8 months now having an engine built and picking up other misc. things such as the k-member, trans, driveshaft, rear end etc etc off various board members.
Take plenty of pics to share w/ us!
Good Luck
oh yeah... as another guy said the cluster would work fine if you want to spend the cash on something else right off. The tach will be off but the speedo should be good to go. You can do the swap w/o having to change the rear end but it would be a smart choice however to pick up a used Z or T/A rear to have the posi and disc brakes sometime or another. I'm pretty sure the fuel pump you have right now will work just fine along with the A/C and the power steering pump so you could save some time by leaving the current ones you have currently.

I just purchased the entire front suspension a 97 Camaro LT1 including K frame, rotors, calipers, rack and pinion, control arms and sway bar fully assembled. I only paid $150.00 and will just drop it in. I was going to go with the Tubular K bar, but couldn't pass up the other deal. I'm waiting for the engine to arrive this week and will hopefully drop it in soon after. I also purhased the instrument panel as well. Any ideas on what header/exhaust systems will yield the most horsepower? Thanks for the help.
may want to check ouyt the lt1 section for exhasut setups on lt1s.
I would defienelty go with a lt1 drivesahft, they are only lke $25, if you have the money go with an aluminum ls1 drivesahft but they are about $100.
V8 sway bars are thickinr then v6 ones, you may want to swap out the rear and I hav seen them sold for liek $15.
As for the rear, i have heard it will hold up, but you are going to want LSD, with an lt1 or you are going to have traction problems. But i guess you can get by awhile without it.
I got my lt1 rear end for my car for $383 shipped across the country. Gave me 3.42s, limited slip dieff, and 4 wheel disc brakes a realtively easy swap. Everything bolts right up including the brakes, but you need a 4 wheel disc brake e-brake cables.
Where is tucson anyways? if its drivng distance i may be interested in a used 3.4L motor

I read most of this, but I think this will pretty much completely satisfy you...
Call Scott at Speed Automotive @ 1-800-368-0116...if that number doesn't get you through to him (it's busy sometimes), try 1-423-614-8888. This place is a local shop here in Chattanooga that specializes in such swaps. Since I'm close he set me up with everything I needed to do a V6 to LS1 swap for an excellent price, but you'd have to pay shipping. But this guy will be able to tell you exactly what you need, and he can give you his price. Just tell him what you do have, and he'll know exactly what the rest is...that should fix you up.

Total was about 5,000.00 for parts and labor was free (did it all myself). The car is sweet, but I wouldn't do it again. Anyone attempting it should by a salvage car for parts because there are so many parts needed that nickel and dime you.

Good luck and lets see some pics if you get em.
