94 3.4 help please
i bought another v6 firebird today and whoever towed it to the auction messed up and bent the tail pipe of the bird on the bed of the roll back. it bent it shut where the pipe exits the muffler and the dumbases at the auction decide to crank it up and now it has a exhaust leak on the passengers side where the 3 pack of what ever is bolted to the manifold. whats whis peice called and how much are the gaskets. is there any other places i need to look for blown gaskets since the pipe was bent double and pinched closed? i have a guy comming tomorrow at 6 to look at it and i need to get this fixed asap. paid 300 for the car guys gonna pay 2500 for it.

"ASE Master tech" and you're asking what the "3 pack of whatever" is?
Sorry, that's funny. lol!
That "3 pack whatever" is the digital egr. It has three stages, it is held to the manifold by two bolts, one of which is partially covered by a heat shield. You can remove the bolts and use ultra copper silicone as a gasket if needed and reinstall with the bolts. Mine has held this way for quite some time.

Re: 94 3.4 help please
the excess pressure probably blew the valve itself apart. your probably going to need a new valve. the odds of just the gasket blowing would be slim.
and yes, I find it funny as well.

I'm not going to nit pick, but to not know what an EGR valve is on ANY given motor is a bit hard to swallow. They must no longer require the 5 years of in feild expirence like they used to.

Have you ever seen the test required for ASE certification? Half of the stuff is a joke. If a car exhibits a no start condition, on the test the first thing they want you to do is pull the valve covers and check to see if the valvetrain moves when the engine is cranked.
Any competant mechanic would first check for spark.
Even funnier is I do not have a "certification" , yet the first time I opened the hood of a V6 f-body, I could spot the EGR and a leak in less than 15 seconds. Also fixed it in less than 20 minutes.
