92 camaro RS

hey we got a 92 camaro RS, it was running fine untill we desited to drive it from san antonio to austin. itwas low on gas for quite awhile and we could start smelling gas in the car for a small amount of time untill we switched drivers then continued.. we finally get into san antonio and the car starts bogging realy realy bad and dies twice in trafic. we take it to the gas station and get a full tank, still bogging realy bad, we go to my house and turn it off and pop the hood to let the car cool down, we go out 2 hours later to crank it up it will not start, we tryed to flood the engin to see if the pump was working and we did not smell gas. Is the gas pump not working? what do you think the problem is? help

Re: 92 camaro RS

I could be wrong so someone correct me if I am, but running your car that low on gas could be bad cause it can pick up excess sediment from the bottom of your tank and clog your fuel filter, lines, or injectors

Is that a guess, or did you actually check it?

Undo your rear shocks, panhard bar, and sway bar endlinks, then lower the rear, and you're free to drop the tank.

Re: 92 camaro RS

Go out, buy a fuel pressure gauge, attach it to the schrader valve on the fuel rail in the engine, and turn the ignition to the "on" position. do you have pressure?

if not, your fuel pump is shot. time for a new one.

Re: 92 camaro RS

Will being that low on gas really crap a fuel pump with the sediment? I've heard that before, but seems like if it's pumping from the bottom, it'd have the sediment anyway...

Re: 92 camaro RS

no, that wouldnt have much, if anything to do with it, it just may have been time for your fuel pump to go. check the pressure, then get back to us, and we can help you try to diagnose it.

Re: 92 camaro RS

Backfiring I thought was caused by cylinders firing out of order or not enough spark
