3" catback = not enough back pressure?
3" catback = not enough back pressure?
ill prolly be goin with the edelbrock catback or ss takeoff. does 3" make the car lose too much back pressure? i know its good to lose some but is there a fineline between enough and too much?
I'd say on a mildly modifed v6 3" may be too big
alot of people like the 2.75" pipes from the v8
I have a cat back I'm tryin to sell with a 2.75 I pipe & s-pipe(bouth put new on my car, didn't come off a v8) with a flowmaster 80 and 2.5 tailpipes
I think edelbrock also makes a cat back with a 2.5 i pipe

You'll get mixed opinions on 3"...some swear they didn't feel any low-end loss...some say they did but the difference was felt up in the higher RPMS.
When I first got my exhaust, it felt a LOT BETTER up top...it went faster on the freeway with the same amount of throttle and from 60+, on acceleration it kicked a lot harder.
Down low, I didn't feel that much of a difference. Weird though...on my friend's car (same engine), after the 3" installation his car felt real slow down-low. We jumped into my car and it felt a lot better...his car was stock induction too though.
If you want to play it safe, you can just get a 2.75" pipe...two friends installed them on their cars and I didn't feel any lowend loss and the topend performance was still very nice.

ive got 3 inch highflow from manifold back to 4 inch pipes....on my 3.4...trust me they are too big....sounds pretty mean though especially at low RPMS....havnt really noticed a difference cept it feels like there is no engine....its wierd....must be lack of backpressure but feels like engine has no tourqe..... plus with pipes that big u need headers if not and it is cold where u live they cool down too quick causing exhuast manifold to crack...mines cracked 3 times....
That is WAY too big...I'm sure top-end pulls better but you must have no lowend. I hope I'm misreading it and the 4" is your tailpipes and not your I-pipe...
Unless of course your blown...then thats good.

nonono the last 18" are 4 inch....actually 4.25" stainless steel tips ... its 3 inch from the manifold to a highflow cat with 3.25 out to the tips....and yes i know they are way too big.....finally got the money for the engine swap for this summer which includes some major engine rebuilding before putting in
....as well as headers and a 6 speed swap... and off the line right now the car sucks

I would like to know if the stock I pipe from a 1995 Z28 will fit a 1995 V6 (3.4)? I'm almost certain both have just one cat and hopefully they are interchangeable. Also, what is the stock diameter of the V8's I pipe? Thanks!
