My friends mom has a nice 97 RS, it has 120k miles on it and it idles kinda rough. She thinks its the "distibutar" but i know they dont have one, or do they? Tell me how it works on the 3.8l PLEASE, i need to know so i can help her out. Is it like the lt1 and i have an opti spark? if so how much is a new one for a v6. Thanks for the help guys...

The 3.8L V6 uses a Distributorless Ignition System (DIS). You will see 3 coil packs with 2 poles out of each one. The ignition is computer controlled by the Crankshaft position sensors and camshaft position sensors as well as other things here and there. I would check into a faulty coil pack, possible new plugs or wires and if worse comes to worse, a ignition control module (which is what the coil packs bolt to).
