3.8 engine mods

hey everyone

i own a 96 rs camaro with a 3.8, and i want to do some engine mods. i was hoping that some of you could offer me some suggestions on what i should start with, what is offered for the 3.8, and how far basic bolt on mods will get me.
thanks

First Mods..

Usually the first things people will do is replace the stock intake (air box), either with a K&N Fuel Injection Performance Kit, or the SLP Cold Air Intake. They are both pretty much equal in performance, I've heard some people say that the K&N is better by a few hp and some say the SLP is.. Both add 20-25 hp at the flywheel, and I believe around 10 hp to the rear wheels.. If looks matter, go with the SLP, it is black powder coated stainless steel and looks pretty good.. If not, I'd suggest whichever you can find cheaper. Also, the SLP CAI is specifically designed for the 95-97, while the K&N FIPK is designed for the 93-95.. Since there is basically no difference in the engines, they can go on pretty much any 93-02 as far as I know, but it might be a little harder to get the K&N in your car.. Never tried it so I don't know.. I also have a 96 3.8, and I'm about to order the SLP CAI and put it on, hopefully next week. The second upgrade most people would do would be a catback exhaust system. You have a ton of options there.

The intake options should cost around $200, and you can install them easily yourself. There are other options besides K&N and SLP, but those are by far the most popular. With the exhaust you could spend anywhere from $250 or $300 up to $800 or more. Installation would probably be 100-200 for exhaust. It's possible to do it yourself, and probably not too difficult, but you have to be able to get under your car so it depends on what resources you have.

Also, when I was looking into things I found www.camarov6.com to be very helpful, especially the Modifications Encyclopedia.

Here are a few websites that sell aftermarket parts for the V6:
www.tbyrne.com
www.lmperformance.com
www.thunderracing.com
www.summitracing.com

As far as how far it's going to get you... Stock you would be running mid to high 15's most likely.. Those mods aren't going to do a ton, but they're the first steps.. Intake and exhaust might get you into the low 15's.. Also depends if you've got an A4 or a manual... Might be just a tad quicker than those times if you have a manual..

Hopefully that helped you out, let me know if you have more questions...

u can do most of the basic mods that u can do to a v8 car. u can do headers,CAI,TB,exhaust, gear, ect.

i would try the www.camarov6.com , u will find a lot of info on there. i have seen/heard of the 5 speed cars going mid to high 14's w/ just bolt ons.
