3.4V6 1995 4th Gen not starting properly

Hi All,

Just joined the forum today.

I have recently got a 3.4v6 1995 Camaro and it has recently had trouble starting. The engine will crank but sometimes stops right away if it catches hold. Anyone have any ideas? I had similar problems with my 3rd gen Camaro and Firebird and it was the dizzy cap, rotor arm, leads and plugs to fix it. this however ,doesn't have a Dizzy cap at all?

Thanks in advance

Peter

Have you confirmed good fuel pressure?

not yet. the pump is coming on and i've had no problems before. I'm not at all mechanically minded so i've asked a friend to come look at it and he may be able to come at the weekend, i just wondered if anyone here has had a similar problem. I've already ordered leads and plugs just on the offchance after reading another thread here. I know on all 3 of my earlier (3rd gen) models had a similar problem and it was the dizzy cap leads plugs and rotor arm. i was just thrown when i found out these had no distributer, but had a module instead. how reliable are these modules and coils?

The module and coil packs are very durable and usually problem free. Even though you hear your fuel pump coming on, it doesn't mean it is giving you a good pressure. The only way of knowing is to put on a fuel pressure gauge.

cheers. i'll ask my friend to bring one from his garage (if he hasn't already)when he comes to look at it. could that mean the pump? if so, how much is a new one and how difficult to change?

does anybody know if the 3.4's have the same problem with plug wires wearning out every 20K or so as the 3.8 do?? If so that may also be worth looking into if your fuel pressure test comes out OK, but if it is the plug wires you'd probably notice the syptoms of a miss when the engine is running

Yeah, that's what's a bit puzzling. when it starts it seems to run ok. notced today though when you press the accelerator lightly the revs dip ever so slightly before they pick up. It's never done that before either? so add that to it sometimes cranking and then starting but dying milli-seconds after (but only sometimes) and what could that be? if it was fuel pressure (or fuel pressure regulator) would that affect the car when it is running too?
