3.4 internals
3.4 internals
On the 3.4 block, what is the weak part? I think I heard the rods and crank were forged? or at least the rods? I know the pistons are aluminum. Anyone know where I can get in-depth specs on the 3.4. I know they seem to have an oil problem? Low oil pressure anyways. How much can I expect to pay for forged pistons, I have some friends at Wiseco, since there is a Wiseco in my hometown, and they actually work on that. If the rods and crank are forged, what do you think they can hold? It seems Tiago has had no trouble at 360fwhp and 430fwhp (flywheel, i didnt use any equation, just rough estimation.) And thats with stock internals. I wasn't sure if I should post this in advanced tech or not, since its about a V6. I can get the whole engine for 350 dollars, guarenteed to run, but I planned on taking it apart, porting the heads, getting new valvetrain components, forged pistons, block cleaned, honed, etc. Get RKSport headers, or port stock ones, port upper/lower intake and get a larger throttle body, My friend has a 3.1l Lumina, and It has a way larger throttle body, and it has the same bolt pattern. I was planning on getting a LSD from SLP, I think the price was 100 I heard from somewhere? I was really hoping if someone could do pricing, I can do all the work myself, besides the maching of the block, and balancing it, but I can port and tear it down and what not. Any help would be appreciated, or directions to the right place would help, I am off to see if I can get some prices myself.

If you were gonna go through all that trouble, and have to tune it afterward, why not just get a stock lt1? It will make about the same power, if the six can make that much. I shouldnt be the one to say since i know little about the 3.4
If the rods and cranks were forged, then people would be the the **** out of these things, so i really doubt the are, that and production costs would higher, so why would it be done?
I do know that these motors have a supposedly horrid intake design.

for forged pistons, rings and wrist pins look to spend a lil over 600$
dont port the stock manifolds IMO... they are crap.. but if you do want to port some i have a set left over from when i put on my headers, let me know if ya want em... but seriously.. dont port them, they are crap
no matter what you do to the top end it wont flow well... unless you swap on a set of 3100 heads and intakes... but then you will need a set of dished pistons
Me, I am a great source on the V6 60 internals.
I have also herd that the crank and rods are forged.
The pistons are cast aluminum with .912'' wrist pins centered 1.44'' below the crown.
They have 5.700'' long rods that are .860'' wide with a 2.000'' rod jornal. ( Chevy small block with small jornal rods can be made to fit a 3.4L)
The intakes ports are 85cc combustion chamber is about 57cc and the exhaust ports are 60cc.
Intake valves are 1.73'' exhaust are 1.43''.
Bore is 3.62'' stroke is 3.31''
The 3.4's have 17pph injectors that can suport about 204hp.
C/R is 9.1:1 to 9:1
Get headers I only ported mine because I was poor.
I think you herd that LSD are 100 bucks from us you have to get them from SLP because an OEM part from the dealer is going to be about $400.
I can tell more if you want.

I also know quite a bit about the 3.4L V6 so if you need some help, lemme know. I put a set of Ross forged aluminum pistons in my 3.4L along with Manley forged aluminum rods. I have completely reworked my V6 so drop me a line sometime.
actually it made close to 390 hp and 460 tq
not bad for stock bottom end/stock cam.
I don't think the crank is forged, just cast, still hold 500 ish hp.
can't wait to get a cam and some low CR pistons in this biatch

Actually the 3.4 is a pretty strong motor.A lot of Baja and off-road racers use it to save on weight.GM (really expensive) has a ton of performance internals for the 3.4, so they are out there.Hey Tiago, any word on those LS1 turbo's?

Shot me an email if you are up for it. I could build the kit on my car and send it to you.
You can get an 2.8 or 3.1 plenum they (2.8, 3.1 and 3.4) all have the same bolt pattern.
