2001 3.8 performance musts. what to do?
2001 3.8 performance musts. what to do?
Ok I have had my camaro for only 3 months and its a great car but what should be some of the first mods i should consider? I like the fuel efficiency of the car so thats why i stayed away from the z28 but the car needs a little something and i dont know where to start...
Re: 2001 3.8 performance musts. what to do?
thanks for the input ive checked out the whisper lid and this will be at the top of my list if not on tomorrows list. Do you have the catback and if you do what muffler are you using?
Re: 2001 3.8 performance musts. what to do?
Well I started off with SLP loudmouth and loved the hell out of it. The problem was I live at home and my parents didn't. They made me get rid of it and I bought Edelbrock's catback. The intermediate pipe on thier exhaust (straight part that runs along the driveshaft) is weird. It's 2.25 inch piping until where it goes over the axle then it goes to 3 inch. I had the muffler shop install this one and had them cut the 2.25inch section out and weld in a 3 inch pipe so it would be 3" catback all the way. It sounded great, no rasp or nothing. Then the muffler started to rattle as if a bomb had gone off inside and the stuff was just bouncing around. A few days ago I got a Hooker maxflow muffler welded in place of the edelbrock muffler. It sounds good but at WOT I'm still not sure how I feel about it but it still needs to burn in some. If I had the $$ I would've gotten Borla from the start because of quality, sound and the fact that you can adjust volume using little plates.

The link wouldnt work for the sound, but I have a Borla.
I have a Borla Cat back, stock headers and the wisper lid.
In my opinion, it sounds "OK" , not like a V8 though! I have the block off plate installed and I drilled a few holes in it so it sounds the best I've ever had it I think, It sounds great down low thanks to the 3" piping, but up top without the small or solid plate it's just too loud and Raspy.
It's a quality system, thats why i bought it (their wasnt many V6 options a few years ago) It's T304 stainless steel so it has held up to the winters without any rust and other then a ocasional clunk from where it connects in the center on the cross bar (I used the wrong clamp and it rusted causing the clunk) it's been good.
I'd do some serious homework before you buy one, Everyone wants something a little different.
If I had a New V6 again I dont know what I would do.

deff. start with an intake, headers, caty. and exhaust. Throttle repsonse will be much much better and you will notice some gains. When your ready move onto bigger mods
I have magnaflow catback. 3" piping from the S pipe all the way back. I love it and i get alot of comments about the deep throaty sound it makes. Doesnt sound too raspy above 4k either. If money is a situation however i would recommend the slp loudmouth. quality exhaust for the price and looks real nice
