1988 2.8 multiport

i just recently got an 88 camaro with the 2.8 multiport motor after my 91 305 got totaled by a minivan. im kinda satisfied with it but id like to know if anyone know how to get more power out of the motor something cheap would be good. im also interested in getting a performance chip for it but am unsure as to where to look. eventually though i plan to put a 350 tunedport motor in it but until than id like to get some more power from the engine.

Get a fresh set of Spark Plugs, Wires, Filters/Fluids

Dynomax makes a Catback for the 2.8/3.1. Throw on a High Flow Cat. Pop in a K&N Air Filter and an ASP Underdrive Crank Pulley. Replace stock coil with an MSD one. Couple free mods available such as TB Bypass, AC/Smog Ditch, Weight Reduction, Home made CAI etc... Search around, theres PLENTY of modification for the 60 Deg V6. If you want to go all out, Crane makes a Cam, throw in some 3.73 Gears and a Shift Kit from Transgo.

I'm pretty sure pacesetter makes headers for only like $240.

Well one simple mod would be to ARI Engines or go to their website at engine-parts.com and search their stroker v6 page. They are all about that little 60* v6. Anything from all out cams, heads, pistons, even stroker kits. All very cheap too. 3.4 stroker kit is like 500 to 1000, and everything comes wiht it. they even have aluminum heads for like 500 a pair then they can port and polish them for an extra 300 or 350. They now their stuff give them a call or search their site. They will make the little six scream like H**L.

Can I seriously buy the engine from you when you're ready to sell it? I also have an '88 2.8 multi-port, and have had no luck finding a replacement for the blown engine.

If you are mentioning the 2.8-3.4L stroker kit, I'd probably stay away from that particular idea.

The factory 2.hate just doesn't have the beef to take that bore and stroke.

Aluminum heads don't need a P/P job, btw. Not THE aluminum heads we have all oogled over, at least. So, that's a few hundies that can go towards other wants.

Besides, for the cost of what I've seen replacements for, may as well go with the real deal 3.4L...

That ARI engines is all custom. Everything they make is proven relaible through racing. I trust their opinion. No offense, but they have years of racing and development in that little v6.

if i really do go through with the swap sure you can buy it but i might just end up selling the car and buying a tunedport car which is what i really want.

Isnt the 2.8L Block the same as a 3.4? I was told GM bored it to the 3.1L, then stroked it to make the 3.4L. using the 2.8 block the whole time. -Tim

Re: 1988 2.8 multiport

yes it is the same exact block, same thing all through the years, when i had my six i did the headers, intake, chip 3;73's, trans-go trans pak, B&M Ripper, bigger tires, cam, planed the heads 2 millimeters, and all the free mods from thirdgen.org, cooler 'stat, fan switch, 60# shot of the giggle juice, and that thing ran pretty well for a 6-popper!

good luck

Re: 1988 2.8 multiport

sorry for being so late but it was 1 92 RS with the 3.1 and i never took it to the track basically cuz nobody there would ever let you live it down, but it did take stock 305 TBI's and CFI's without a problem
