This guy at work is super cocky with this car he is driving (its his brothers, but he is borrowing it for the week)

It is a 97 cobra with exhaust, pullies, 3.73 gears and a Zex 75 shot. He pretty much told someone he would race me for pinks and would beat me easily. I have the mods in my sig and I raced another guy at work with basically the same mods (96 cobra) except for the 75 shot and I pulled him pretty good. From a roll I think the 97 cobra would beat me even though I don't think he is a very good shifter....but lets say I throw on my MT Radials and open up my cutout and run him from a dig for a little bragging money. I don't see him hooking up very good with street tires, and even if he has the horsepower edge on me I don't think he would be able to catch up for awhile if at all. What do you guys think? Would he be maybe mid to high 12's with good traction? I also heard from another guy that he thinks its a 11 second car and I kinda laughed that off and said yea right...

Oh and the guy I raced who has the 96 cobra thinks I will beat him cause he thinks the guy can't shift too well......hmmmm....

 

With no spray, you will take him easily. However, He's gonna pull you pretty quick if you don't put more than a couple car lengths on him if he uses the go-gas.

 

With the nitrous, he will win. But if it is an NA run, I would have to give you the edge. Solution - go get nitrous and win in both cases. And yeah, it would be a miracle for that thing to run 11's.

 

Those 97 mustangs were jokes. You have enough to run him down now. it would just depend on how big of a gap you can make before he decides to boost on you.

Lighten your car up a bit... and focus on getting the hole shot on him and you should be well off.

You should be fine aslong as he doesn't spray you. If he sprayes you Its over.

 

A '97 Cobra would run right with an LT1 stock for stock........I guess your car and mine are both jokes too??

 

If he had 430's then it would be a race but 373's are like 273's in a camaro

 

Doubtful w/ 373's...but pre 03 cobras have hit 12's w/ 430's n tire. W/ dohc's its all about the gear and the driver..

Obviously you have no clue what your talking about..97 COBRAS had 305 hp stock...that years GT was a joke.

 

97 GT's had 215 hp... how is that not a joke?


97's Cobras had 300 hp... but they were still hitting 14's.
naturally the magic numbers people still qoute to this day are the ones Mustangs and Fast Fords... always puts out. But amazingly no person has ever gotten the same times out of the same stock cars that they test?



Even when my camaro was stock years ago I never had a problem running mustangs. Mostly the newer ones I ran and I never had a problem pulling on them... with lamo mods like an exhaust and intake on the car. Even when they were out moded over me. The Z still pounded them... so what's to sweat.



JBird33 my car hasn't been stock since 95.

 

I ran my buddy's 97 cobra that has 4.30s, underdrive pullies, offroad h(or x) don't remeber which and catback in my Ta and it was pretty damn close,probably a nose to me, but I raced him in my z which has the same mods as my TA except the heads are p&p, a larger throttle body, borla exhaust and kooks headers plus a 150 shot and I murdered him but that thing has some potential and with this guy spraying 75 you might be in trouble.

 

I took a ride with him tonight with the juice on, it pulls pretty decent, but not insanely fast or anything....I didn't get a chance to run him, but tomorrow I am gonna go to work with my MT's on and hopefully he will run me.

On the way home I ran the 96 cobra from work that doesn't have juice from like a 50 mph roll....wasn't a very good place for my auto to do a kickdown and we were pretty much neck and neck up to 120 mph....I didn't have my cutout open though and that is a pretty big advantage up top for me. The guy in the 96 cobra shifts like a madman though, he power shifts and barely hits the clutch at all. He tells me he hears it grind into gear some when he shifts...thats how aggressive he shifts. The guy in the 97 cobra on the other hand lets off the throttle and kinda eases it into gear, so I think that could hurt him.

I will keep you guys updated if we run em....I hope he doesn't say he is too scared to run from a stop cause of the cops or something...but we'll see.

 

I personally witnessed a stock white 97 cut consecutive 13.7's and a stock 98 run 13.6's...adding to your MM&FF referrance I think Evan Smith personally ran his stock 1997 cobra to a 13.3...seeing GMHTP ran there LT1 formula to a 13.4 stock I guess its believable on top of evan smith probably being the best in the business


heatmaker sounds like you raced alot of bad cobra drivers...alot of owners dont rev them anywhere near what they have to be to full potential...its actually more common then not....96-98 cobras have hit 103-104 mph stock, Lt1s are lucky to hit 101, maybe 102...not alot faster but the 20 something hp the cobra has over the LT1 for those respective years does show w/ the right driver.

 

Well unfortunately I have some bad news....ok get this. I put my MT's on and opened my cutout and headed off to work. About 1 hour into work I get a phone call....I've never gotten a phone call at work, so I'm like what the heck? It turns out that my National Guard unit here in Indiana that I am in is getting mobilized down to help with the hurricane efforts. I have to report tomorrow morning and have alot of packing to do and what not, so I asked if I could leave work early and that was that. I doubt if the guy will even be driving the cobra anymore once I get back, being that it wasn't even his....kinda sucks cause I wanted to run him so badly...
