what will my friends 99 Z really run?

ok, i have a mustang and my buddy has a 99 Z. he is FINALLY modding his car after about 6 years! he is getting full exhaust with headers, the cold air intake box thing (?), and short throw shifter. what do you think he will consistantly run in the 1/4 with regular tires? thanks,

jim
this is not a "mustang v camaro" post, im just curios as to what his will run with the aforementioned mods.

my best is 12.8 at 111 mph.

I'd look for some consistent low, low 13's, depending on his traction situation and where you are located (elevation). That is what I see at Indianapolis Raceway Park here in Indiana. Most LS1's I see here are only running a street radial and usually get 2.1 60's and net mid to low 13's with an intake and a catback. If he had some slicks and wanted to give that 10 bolt some hell he could see 12's easily

BTW, is he getting longtubes?

If it helps a kid around here has a Trans Am with the same mods and he raced a Mach 1 running 12.8's. In the words of the Mach1 guy, "he murdered me" The Mach got the jump but the TA went flying by, from what I understand. Hope that helps.

Was the T/A a 2001 or 2002? Because those respond very very well to the full exahust/lid mods (all LS1's do, but those especially). A couple of my buddies have LS1's and we had a dyno day recently and the 98 A4 put down 300 rwhp with no catback on it, everything else stock, but the 2001 SS M6 put down 324 completely stock. There are too many variables to tell really. Just have to wait and see. My friend with the 98 just installed a set of longtubes and is working on doing the rest of his exahust now, and he may dyno it again. He ran 13.5 @ 105 all stock with a 2.1 or 2.2 60', and he will definately run it again with the LT's and exahust. Was this race w/ the T/A and the Mach 1 at the track or on the highway or what?

Not sure of the year. Hooker LT's, Loudmouth and Lid. Not sure if its M6 or A4 either. It was from a stop on a highway.

Re: what will my friends 99 Z really run?

thanks, i thought it would be around there. sounds like low 13's with good traction. how much HP is that gain for the camaro? I am not sure if they are long tubes or not, but exhausts compared to mustangs are pretty expensive. i think he wsa running high 13's stock. we live in new york, upstate. he may be disapointed if he can't hit 12's, he was talking as if he would easily hit 12's, but i didnt think he would be able to without DR's.
thanks,
jim

should be interesting to see. people who think high 12's would be droppping close to a full second off his time! that would be impressive with only those mods. he decided not to get gears, even though i thought he should get them, but oh well!

Most LT1/LS1's repsond well to full exhausts and intake work. Its not uncommon to drop a second from your time. I expect to drop more than that from the few bolt on's I have. Biggest mod he's going to need it DR's to compete.

well, we made it to the track. his best time was 13.2 @ 105 with a 2.0 60' time. mostly he ran 13.3's and 4's. thanks for info. he is alittle disapointed but i guess this is what they really run around here as there were 2 others with similar mods and similar times.

Low 13's? If the guy has any skills at all it will run 12's all day. Low 13's are cake with a stock M6 if you can drive at all. He should be able to pull off a 12.8 on street tires with a 2.1 sixty. He wont need a fantastic jump to run a 12 just a decent one.
