A kid from around my way has a honda civic we went to honda day and he ran his car he ran a 18.5+ and a 18.20 and now he thinks he is fast. Lol. :e has no idea what fast is anyway he wants to run my 95z but he wants a 20 car spot what do you think do I have a chance I figure at the worst I am in the 13s my mods are in my sig minus the nitrous. - think I am gonna do it for small money like 50 bucks I just want to embariss him .S.o what are your thoughts can I win given a 20 car spot.

 

Seriously -- an 18.x? I don't think 3 cylinder Geo Metros ran that slow. I'd even doubt my 80 Corolla was that slow, and it took over 11 seconds to hit 60.

You could outrun him using just the cruise control's "accel" function.

Be a dick about it. Take a measuring tape and measure his car then measure out the 20X spot. It'll make it all the sweeter when you blow by him.

He has no respect for a v8 or any muscle car for that matter. I tried explaining to him v8's has been going 8's for the past 40 years. There was a honda that went 8.90's it must have atleast 100,000 grand in it he thinks he could build that car for 10,000 i had to laugh, the only reason for the race is to embarish him in front of his even stupider honda friends. I am gonna post a vid, hopefully this happens this weekend and i can make a quick 50 on it. lol

 

I'd ask him why, if he thinks his car is fast, does he need 20 lengths? That's completely absurd. Tell him real cars (and real men for that matter) don't need lengths. I never have and never will understand that mentality.

I had a '93 Civic EX coupe w/ auto trans in college. I knew better than to think it was fast, but I did take it to a drag strip once. Low 18s is exactly what it ran. 1.6L 4-banger w/ VTEC. I think the engine code was D16Z6. It probably was capable of a few tenths faster than that, but I didn't know about brake torquing (which is a good thing, because I probably would have destroyed the transmission if I did).

20 car lengths on a Civic is ~288 feet (267 if it's a hatchback). Judging by the 330' times I found searching for random timeslips online, I figure a stock-ish LT1 4th gen can cover that distance from a stop in ~5 seconds. That would actually make it a pretty close race.

That said, I too don't see the point of such a contest. If you really want to race him and give him an advantage, do it like a bracket race. You both run the whole quarter mile, but you start ~5 seconds later.
