They're coming out of the woodwork
They're coming out of the woodwork
Okay, this isn't really a kill story so much as a wtf kind of thing.
When I had the Z28, I would occasionally get somebody lined up at a stop light with me who wanted to go. Usually they had a quick-ish car. Now that I have the Mach, however, it seems like everytime I am stopped at a light, it doesn't matter what they are driving, the person next to me always wants to go.
They can be minivans, beaters, pimp-mobiles, ricers, trucks, or sports cars.
The thing is, I am almost always just minding my own business (unless I am next to something that looks fast), and it isn't until the light turns green and I hear them squeal away that I realize we're racing.
I don't know why they don't throw a rev or something to let me know they want to run. One time it was a Dodge Ram (read: Super-Fast, Hemi Scoot-Mobile
) Anyway, the light turns green and he guns it. I looked over as I am easing out the clutch, thinking riiiiiiiiight. Well, I let him run and when I got to the next light, he looked over at me with a bad *** type of look. I'm all like
. So, this time when the light turned green, I didn't hold back at all. I had him beat in first gear and murdered by the time I hit third (Obviously). So, at the next light, he didn't even line up next to me, he just kinda kept back and when the light turned green, we both eased away
.
I had a grandpa in a Cadillac do the same thing! I let him go because the lanes merged and I needed to turn anyway. Okay, I'm done.
Edit: Added the text that is in Bold.

The part that is in Bold is where the Mach enters the story.
I'll edit it to make it more obvious.
Re: They're coming out of the woodwork
It happens to me all the time.If its not a worthy opponent most of the time I completely ignore them.Sometimes if its at a light I'll take off wicked slow and stare straight ahead.Acting like their POS does'nt even exist in my eyes.If anyone says anything I just tell them that their POS does'nt belong on the same pavement as my car and it'll just be a waste of gas to blow their POS into the weeds. They get mad when I tell them that. Then sometimes I'll give them a thumbs down out the window as I floor it and watch as they disappear in my rearview mirror.
I feel that people should learn the performance capabillities of as many different cars as possible so if you meet up with someone at a light you dont go biting off more than you can chew.People with hondas that have an exhaust and CAI running 15's should realize thay have no chance against a 13 second LS1.I've been street racing for 14 years and only lost a couple times. Its not just because my car is fast but you got to know which cars to race and which cars to avoid racing.

Re: They're coming out of the woodwork
Dude here in Arkansas every F*(^&% redneck has a truck and thinks it sooo fast.
It was funny once I had a guy in a New Hemi Ram do the take off at one light while I eased away, so at the next light he had this big *** grin. So I rolled down the window, and said Wow,and asked if it had a Hemi (I knew it did since it had the badges), he said yes... Light turned green and I blew him away.... BADLY. Next light he wouldn't get near me

Re: They're coming out of the woodwork
I don't know if it's information that they have, or lack of information. What I mean by this is that many people I work with who know next to nothing about cars have heard about the new Mach I, but when when I mention an LS1 or Z28 they just don't register that as being quick. I think that they know, based on stuff they've read, that the Mach I is a fast car, so they test it. These same people think a Corvette is REALLY fast, so they don't challenge them, not knowing that a base Vette is in the same ballpark as a late Z28 and Mach I.
I think it also depends on who's driving. For instance, I almost NEVER get challenged when driving my wifes C5, but when she drives it, she says she gets some guy (usually guys) who acts like he want to race. She doesn't, simply because she doesn't care if she's faster or slower than the next car, she's in the car she wants and that's all she cares about. Oh, and for some reason she says it's nearly always a "ricer" -- I've schooled her about what a ricer is, so she calls them that

Re: They're coming out of the woodwork
The new Mach 1's are very nice and respectible cars. Run damn good. Probably the best n/a running mustang put out in decades. On this other board I go to (www.dfwstangs.net) There are two guys running mid 12's with just exhaust and slicks. ONe of the guys in the 1/8th mile ran 7.8's
