Re: stock gn vs stock auto ls1 ws6

LOL stock gns were rated at 275 horse(correct me if wrong) and i highly doubt that they would run 12s. Stock gmc syclone pickups were turbo v6s with 275 horse and they had awd and ran 13s. This is all info from hot rod mag so i think its reliable, correct me if wrong. IMO i think that the ls1 would win.

i think GNXs ran low 13s stock.

maybe he was talking about them.

GNs were rated at 245.GNXs were 285.

They can run mid 12's with minimal mods...high 13's bone stock from the factory.

You wouldn't have much trouble with it "if" it was stock.

Now a TTA on the other hand...that's a different story

the wisest piece of car info i ever got....

"don't ever mess with a GN or a Supra. You'll very likely get embarrassed."

bone stock the LS1 would win, but who leaves their turbo car bone stock.

Re: stock gn vs stock auto ls1 ws6

finding a BONE stock gn is rare but even more rare than that is the person with the car that will actually beat on it,however i will say this after working on gns back in the day for CONLEY'S PERFORMANCE PLUS i will say this the ls1 will out run the gn but there are the factory freaks........GN---14.3-13.70 bone stock!LS1---14.20-13.60 very close, drivers make the difference.........

13.6-14.2 for stock LS1s? They must be pretty slow around your neck of the woods.

No doubt, I don't think I've seen an LS1 around here that's run slower than 13.8's yet--- then again I'm at 450 altitude. GN's can indeed be very fast though, my first loss in this car was to a GN, but he had a larger turbo, full exhaust, and slicks vs. my stock car with barely 500 miles on the clock.

Re: stock gn vs stock auto ls1 ws6

86s were 235, 87s were 245 stock.... both years made about 350tq. The GNX was "quoted" by buick to make 275hp and over 350tq in a bulletin not long after it was released. They never really gave out a rating, but trapping on average 7-8mph higher in the 1/4 verses a standard GN does speak that it is more than 275. One of the buick engineers said loosely that it actually made over 300 during initial testing.

Most stock, well driven 87s will hit around 14 flat at 95-97mph. Put on some good tires and leave the line with 5-6psi boost and you should be hitting 13.7s or so. That's about the best i've seen so far.

So yes that LS1 should beat it in the quarter, assuming it is "stock". But the 1/8 mile will probably be controlled by the GN (if he builds boost off the line) and after that the LS1 will run it down hard. In stock form, 3rd gear is kinda weak in a GN. Mine definitely was. But be careful.... stock turbo, injectors, and PCM can take it down to mid-low 12s with boltons, converter, and tires. Get some nitrous for those lol

I've never even heard of a "stock GN" anymore.. they're all mod'd.... "stock looking" with a Grand National often means 11 second car.. lol.. so be careful dude.

Most of the LS1's at the track i go to run mid 13's. Altitude is about 1200, but most of it I think is track prep.

TONY

Seen some REALLY bad times there guy running 15's in a '03 cobra, and a kid with a LT1 M6 formula running 16's

Re: stock gn vs stock auto ls1 ws6

It all depends on tune of the gn. The fastest stocker I have heard of ran 13.8-13.9 on a factory original state. So in most cases a ls1 provided its a m6 will win most of the time. Now the auto is a different story. All due to the fact that ls1 r torqueless compared to the gns and it will be about a 40-50% chance of the ls1 winning against the gn. Mine ran a 13.5 when i first purchased it. It only had a chip cone filter. And if i recall correctly it only cut a 2.2 60ft. So back then on the street lightly modded ls1s including m6s were usually the loser in races w/ me.
