Question Stang GT vs. ???

I saw a swoopy looking European? car at the stop light in front of me. It had an 8 on the back and what looked like some kind of bird? on the back near the 8. It looked sleek and fast. A Chevy dually was in the other lane. I got behind the car and waited for the light to turn green. The dually and ? car took off slow, then the ? car hammered it. I hammered it to see if I could go around him and pass. I couldn't. That thing was fast! It took everything I had just to keep with him. We shut down about 85. I could not see any badges on it at all. A guy about 75 was driving by himself! What did I race? The guy in the dually gave me a big grin after he caught up.

Come on guys. There are some really smart car guys here. Nobody knows what I raced? It looked like an Aston Martin Vanquish, but the back bird emblem had an 8 in the middle of it. All the photos I see of this car don't have the 8 in the bird. I am guessing the 8 means V8?

I've really tried, and I'm usually pretty good at "name that car", but I can't find anything matching that description. Not a Maserati?

It looked a lot like a Maserati or an Aston Martin like this http://www.edmunds.com/used/2003/ast...2F000295-T.jpg

except it didn't have any badging at all on the whole car that I saw except for a bird with an 8 through it on the back. Are Aston Martin and Maserati cousins or something? They look similar.

That was no "8" it was a "B". I think you ran into a Bentley Continental GT. I see one during my AM commute in the L.A. area. Haven't been able to get him to run though.

Steve,
Have you found out what car it was? Some people who reply to these threads are actually interested in knowing.
Good runs none the less.

You should learn that it's not all about horsepower. What's important is the horsepower/weight ratio (& gearing). Because the Bently GT (if that's what it was) is so heavy, even with 550 hp it only does the quarter mile in the mid 13s, and there's probably not much chance that it's modded.

Good run Steve.

I think that was the car! Thanks for finding it! That car was fast! I stayed close enough behind him to keep him in my sights. He may have been pulling on me, i'm not sure. He might not have even floored it. Who knows. All I know is he pulled on me till I floored it, then he still may have pulled but he couldn't get too far away.

Yea, you should be able to keep up with that through a 1/4, but not past that. Those things top out at 195+ !!! And its not like they creep up to 195, they get up there pretty dayum quick. Anyone who watches Top Gear and saw the episode they tested it on knows what I'm talking about.

As someone else mentioned they are (fast) fat pigs. MT has the '05 going 0-60mph 4.5 sec with the 1/4 coming in at 12.9@109.7mph.
Car and Driver has the '04 going 0-60mph in 4.9sec and the 1/4 in 13.4 (summary didn't list the mph). You probably ran into the '04, how fast is your car?

I ran a 14.0 at 101 before the DRs, gears, tuner and plenum at sea level. I am hoping for mid to low 13s next time out.
