SS vs. C4
SS vs. C4
I am at a light turning left and a newer C4 ( 94-96 ) pulls in thev other turn lane. I thought I wonder if he's game? The light turns and he takes off like a raped ape! I just took off normal not wanting to get all squirrely around a corner. I get the next light with him; this time going STRAIGHT. Ilook over and he's giving me the ultra-serious," My high and mighty corvette will smite your lowly slow-a$$ camaro. " look. I just smiled and when the light turned I proceeded to dust his a$$ by about 3 cars at around 55mph not a long race but enough so that he was PISSED! He kept trying to get next to me again but traffic was not cooperating. Chalk one up to the SS!!
good kill. Sometimes it is worth it to run a second time because if you left him quickly off the line, he may of had traction problems. And he would want a second chance at not screwing up the launch. Just my 2 cents....
good kill.
good kill.
You can't flame me at all because I have both cars in my family and like both for different reasons
.
However the fact that you pulled 3 cars by 55mph isn't that big of a suprise. He has an independant rear and can't launch like we can with our solid axle. Our '96 Grand Sport runs 13.1's@109mph. Looks really slow off the line but by mid track it just takes off. Good kill though, just thought I would offer up a different perspective.

Yeah, I would have liked to have run him to 85-90 mph but no room. I don't think he would have liked the results had we gone from a dig again since I have a vig 2800 and DRs.
I think it was a 6 spd by the way it drove but can't be certain. And don't get me wrong; vettes are cool it just seems like a good chunk of people who own have a condescending attitude.

Stock LT1 C4s (92-96) are anywhere from 13.2-13.8 1/4 mile cars.
Stock LT4 C4s are anywhere from 12.8 (great driver) - 13.2 (average driver).
Your preception about Vette drivers is correct. Most do think they have a superior car to the Fbody. This can be siad about a lot of cars that cost more or is more "high tech" than the fbody. It if cost more it has to better faster/better.
I find that same attitude with the C5 Vette drivers against my C4. It is fun smacking those guys down.
I have owned 6 fbodies so I am more like you guys than any Vette nerd.

Like I posted above and have in my sig my dad has an LT4 Vette:

13.1@109 when it was stock

I've raced a few C4's at the track and like every other car, some are slower and some are quicker. Raced a bone stock LT1 Auto Vert last year that ran a 14.0 and saw a bone stock LS1 Auto Vert running 14.0-14.1 about a month ago. Granted the LS1 driver was a big guy, probably close to 400 lbs. but not what I expected. One of the guys on the racing forums at thirdgen claims mid 13's from his lowly L98 Vette bone stock. The one thing to remember is that the Vette is the Flagship and they're supposed to be quicker than the F-Body, stock for stock. Probably the reason the 35th anniversary cars didn't get the LS6. Beautiful Grand Sport, 6speedZ28!
