Exhaust

Went out for a cruise today and ran across a orange srt4 neon. Don't know of any mods on it but you sure could hear the bov. Anyway we went once from a roll 40mph - 100mph and I had a solid 3-4 cars on him. Then went from a stop 3 times. Both launched good and I had about 5 cars total on him at 115mph. Raced again and he said "it will make boost this time" so I was a little worried but then I beat him by 3 cars.

Finally I turn around and ask if he wants to go 1 more time and says sure. He had to heat up his tires first then we went at it. This time he got about 1 - 2 cars on me out of the whole but the outcome was the same, I won by about 3 cars.

So whats the deal with these things? I thought they were fast I honestly thought I was going to get my *** handed to me, but my LT1 never let me down

 

They are not that fast in stock form. I raced a stock st4 w/ my 93 lt1 w/ intake/catback and it was about dead even, I think I got him by a few feet athe end. He was a 5sp and I was auto too. Plus he had drag radials.

 

From what I've seen they run 13.8 - 14.2 stock in the 1/4 which is about stock LT1 times. My car hasn't been running all that great lately from getting the opti wet and having a few arking plug wires but it ran like a champ today obviously

 

the only ones that are fast are the stage 2/ stage 3 ones. i was told the stage 2 is +7k to the price. i think the 04 came with a stage 2 . 90% of the ones i raced were real close but they pulled hard at 80+.

 

I hate to hijack the thread, but I noticed you're at Boise. Know of any good speed/suspension/etc shops that could do some work for me in the future? Any dyno locations? Thanks.

Anyway, nice kill. IMO SRT-4s, in stock trim, have a little punch for a go-cart. I've yet to run into a stage 2+ with those so-called "turbo-toys".

 

I heard all the hype too and then I rode in an 05 that my friend bought. Needless to say i was disappointed. My friend who has a 240sx with a SR20 swap raced him. He said that at stock boost (which he was running) the neon should keep up with him. He also had a boost leak from hell, the car literally quit making power at 5K. They raced and the 240 held two cars lengths on the neon until he let out of it. Given it doesn't help that my SRT-4 friend can't drive, I still wasn't impressed.

Yea I also heard they pull hard at 80+ but he still didn't gain any ground at all once we got up there. I think he would have run out of breath before my car would

 

Yeah.. My friend has a 04' and i went for a ride in it once. I thought it was pretty fast but then again i had not driven my camaro for about 6 months and was driving around in a 05' cav (not the fastest thing in the world). But ever since i told him that i had a time slip for a 13.8 all he does is talk trash. I dont know what stage he has but he does have an after market blow off valve, turbo timer, 3 in cat back exhaust, and lowering springs. It pushes about 22 psi on colder days. What do you guys think.. I have never seen him hit it from a dead stop so i do not know how his car lauches. But from my experiences the only way they move is if you slip the clutch at high RPM's.

 

I have a friend with a yellow '03 with a ton of upgrades all around. I haven't seen timeslips or anything, but I've been in it, and I believe him when he says it runs high 11's at about 120.

That thing is fffffast. Haven't seen the guy in months, though, so I don't know how he fares against my LS1.

 

I don't know what you guys are driving but with the stage two and toys an SRT can be into the 12s on slicks... Not bad for less thand 23000.... The fastest SRT on street tires is 11.87.

 

well stock there a lil quicker than a stock lt1, but modded they can be REAL fast...they respond VERY good to mods, just like our f-bodys if not better...with a stage 3 kit from mopar and good dr's they are low-mid 12 sec cars

 

Uh, no. What makes you think that a 230hp FWD car is going to be a little quicker than a 275hp (or 285hp) RWD car? The SRT4 doesn't have enough weight advantage to make up for that.

 

My car isn't even running 100% right now , tracing a rough idle, poor fuel mileage, and a random misfire when cold and I had little trouble taking him out. Your car would flat out kill one hah
