Some real world times from the Las Vegas Moter Speedway.
Some real world times from the Las Vegas Moter Speedway.
Well, Me and a few of my friends went to the Las Vegas Motor Speed Way last friday night. They have a thing called Titan Auto Insurance Midnight Madness. It is legal racing from 10pm till 2am. and it was the last one held this year, so alot of cars showed up.
Anyway.... My cousin was racing that night (Supercharged BMW 328) So i was able to talk to alot of people who were in the "pit" section and in line getting ready to race. So i thought i would pass along some real world times from last friday night. Temp was about 43f degrees with very light winds. All numbers are correct and stright from the 1/4 clock.

11.68 @116mph
Toyota Supra (Way to many mods to list but it did have the biggest intercooler i have ever seen and a 300 shot of NOS. Plus his own stageing crew and could smoke his "Drag Raidals" as long as he wanted, crazy!
9.54 @158mph
99 GTP (Cold air, Exhaust)
14.68 @98mph

14.02 @99mph
ACR Cobra replica (Not sure what engine he had in it because he was about 10 cars ahead in the line and only ran once. The guy next to me said he talked to him and knew it was a replica but was unaware of the engine himself)

18.3 @77mph
69 Camaro SS (Huge blower sticking out of the hood and was louder then anything else there)

13.3 @108mph
Dakota R/T (This thing surprised me, It had a hood scoop and body kit, looked real nice. The guy wasent next to his truck in the pit area so im not sure on mods, But it beat an SS Camaro)
13.6 @106mph
These were just a few that i had wrote down while in line and near the staging area.. By the way the z28's & SS's were ranging from stock to super bulit. The best camaro run was high 11's and the worst was 15.3 for a stocker z28 convertible. The avg z28 ran low to mid 14's all night long. Just thought i would pass along some numbers since it was the last night till febuary i wont have any cool race storys for a little bit.. LOL

Excellent info.
It's great to see numbers like this, and bring things back to reality.
It seems to me that people always pick the fastest time they have ever seen a certain car run, and start telling everyone that that's what those cars car do. When in reality, most of the time, the cars run .5 seconds slower than that.(at least)
People say that LT1's run 13.9 at 102 stock. Maybe a few people have pulled that off, but most run mid 14's at 95 - 100 MPH.
I wish more people would spew out numbers that are realistic instead of the fastest times they've seen.
Off my soapbox now...
My first time(only time so far) that I went to the track, I was hoping to break into the 13's since that's what I kept hearing that's what our cars do. I was dissapointed when I could only crack off a 14.4 at 98. Granted, the weather sucked(86 deg, 80% hum), but even with the adjustment for weather, it still would have only been a 14.2 at 100 MPH. That's on a bone stock LT1 M6 with a CAI. My car was running great. My 60' was average at 2.2 sec. So I don't tell people anymore that LT1's run high 13's. I say they run mid to low 14's since that's what I was able to do with a M6 and CAI.

Great info man !!!
I wish everyone who lives by "best times and mph" would read and understand this. I can't tell you how many times I try to explain to others that just cause someone else has a similiar car across the country and they are running XXX times ; that doesn't mean you can drive up to your local dragstrip and click off the same times.
Thanks for posting this.

Here's 1 senario of about 100.
A guy goes out and buys a used 98 LS-1 /auto car and takes it to the track and runs a 14.1 @ 101 mph. He is so confused as to WHY his awesome LS-1 didn't click off a low - mid 13 second run @ 106 mph !! So he posts a message on this website or similiar and asks whats wrong with his car. People need to under stand that not every similiar car runs the same numbers. There are alot of variables involved and it would be narrow minded to say that all LS-1 cars run mid to low 13s.
I can't tell you how many times I read threads where people are questioning the performance of their rides.
EXAMPLE:
(Back in 2000)
Just because someone in Florida has just bought a new 2000 Z28 / 6spd and then takes it to the track. Then runs a 13.2 @ 106 mph. So someone in Seattle WA thinks, if I go and get the same car, then I can run the same numbers. Not true!
I hope this helps.
It was a fun right, alot of nice cars. I never go by what Car and Driver or any other Mag says for perofrmance numbers. Cause they have always been way off from what i have seen in real life or in the area that i am in. My z28 ran 14.5 @97mph here in vegas. Yet everyone and there mother will tell you its a 13.8-14.0 car at over 100mph. all depends on driver/weather/conditions. One of the car mags got a 14.2 out of the rx8 and it ran low 15.s every signle run down the track. But anyway, I'm glad you guys injoyed the numbers, like i said it was a great night with alot of nice cars and its just fun to see what a car can do in real world conditions compared to what the car mags get out of them.
