Slow SRT-4.....driver

Hey all, I was cruising home last weekend to pick up my fiance for the night and while cruising on the highway a new SRT-4, so new it didnt have plates, pulls up next to me. It was red, with new black rims, a big brake kit, new exhaust, and a bov atleast as far as i could tell. I don't street race, and I liked the car so I wanted to say "nice car" so i rolled down my window as he was next to me and gave him the roll down your window hand signal. Next thing I know, as soon as I make the hand motion (moving my hand in a small circle to act like rolling down my window) he takes off and rows through a couple gears, puts on the flashers and slows down. I did not rev, honk my horn or anything like that, and he just took off. So I wanted to talk to him now, so i tried again, and sure enough he just took off. Finally on the third try he realized that I wasn't racing. Now after rambling for so long about something so stupid....

I can't believe how dumb some people are when it comes to driving, does this sort of thing ever happen to anyone else?

Chris

EDIT: spelling

No, because it is very rare I ever see a nice car. And when I do it's usually from a distance. However, I have raced one of those srt-4s. I was quite disapointed. I was hauling 3 other people and going up hill and in traffic he couldn't maneuver better than I could. I think those srt-4s are usually bought by lazy people that want a boosted car that is fast. Oh yeah, I have a 97 z28 with after market exhaust and shift kit, hows that for sad?

honestly, the srt-4 has been a pretty big disappointment from my point of view, here in Hawaii. My first glimpse of a black srt-4 at the tracks was a 15.0 run...I HIGHLY doubt he got better than a 14.5-14.6 all night long. Second night I went to the tracks and saw a brand new red srt-4 without his plates yet...high 14's again. Even though our track in Hawaii is pretty bad, I still manage to run 14.6x '94 Z28 Vert 2.73's on Kumho 235's. The WRX STI's on the other hand I've seen run multiple 13.5x runs.

SRT-4s are not easy to launch. Big torque + FWD = sh!tty traction.

I know 2 people with SRT4's, here in Memphis.

One is running a 13.5 @ 99mph, with ONLY drag radials...
The other one is running a 13.6 @ 101.5 with sucky street tires and a boost controler.

I think they are doing ok for themselves...

I've raced one and it ran a 14.6, but I saw one run a 13.0 @ 107 last weekend on slicks. Not sure what other mods it had but I'd imagine more boost.

Nice kill.

It's nice to see an american made 4 cylinder turbo car that can put down some great numbers. Faster than most other 4 cyl/turbo cars that I see. I'm not a big fan of the small displacement engines that use a turbo, but I will say that they are fun to work on. My buddy's '04 WRX is fun to mod. There are so many new options to mess with. Boost controller, turbo size, up-pipe, downpipe, new computer tuning...

They are not my kind of car whatsoever though. I still prefer the large displacement, rear wheel drive, TQ and sound you can get from a V8.
