Rx-8 vs me

It was a manual one with 2 kids in it on the freeway. I had my two buddies with me, and they flew up, then started creeping up, I hear them downshift and hit. My car is an auto, and we were going about 60. They had a 1/2 lead before they hit it, and about 1 to 1 1/2 car lead before I got going. I put about 3 cars on him by 100. I thought it would have been tougher, but I suppose it is true that the RX-8 and the 350Z don't have much on their older siblings.

Good kill.

A 350Z will beat an RX8, but is still no match for an LS1.

Well any car can be fast with enough done to it. My ex girlfriend has a 2004 350Z with a cold air intake. I have driven it a few times and would say it was probably pretty close to my old '97 Z28 when it was bone stock. However if she grabbed a lane with a stock LS1 she would not like the out come.

His car is all stock except CAI, 19's, and some STICKY *** tires. He's got me on the take off, but it don't take to long to catch him and pass. If he would wind his car out to the 7 grand that it was designed to go to it would probly be a little closer. And it was not luck we've raced more than once. Things to mention before the flames get to close to me......... I still have 2.73's (for another month or so then it's 3.73's) and I still have not installed the racetronics 37# injectors. Then I may be a little faster.

Re: Rx-8 vs me

rx8's were overrated from the factory, and like posted above they have no torque...a stock LT1 would crush one..A well driven 6spd 350 is a low 14 second car and a pretty good race for a stock LT1.anyways good kill

Re: Rx-8 vs me

I know that you're car is an LT1, but I was just comparing them to the fbodies that they should be compared to. Not du to performance, just due to when they came out. 2002 for the last LS1 and 2003 for the 1st 350Z.

And yes, 350Z's are fast. When my TA (LT1) was all bolt-on I ran a 13.1 @ 105 on a cold day at Atco and my friend's 350Z was dead even with me on the highway. I dynoed 289 at the time and he dynoed 238. I guess the 6-speed and lighter weight made up the hp difference. Also, I'm sure it would have been a different race from a stop or slow start.

Only reason he was even with you on the highway was becasue he had a stick and you had an auto. Had you been in a 6 speed you would have owned him.
I raced a 350Z on the higway in my Camaro before I put in the 410's and I had n/p beating him. If I raced one now...Well , I dont think it would be a challenge at all.
As far as the weight thing, the 350Z's are not light cars. Your HP/weight ratio is better then his with your dyno numbers.

Re: Rx-8 vs me

I definitally agree that having an auto put me at a distinct disadvantage on the highway. However, I raced a 99 Z28 6-speed on the highway with my car setup the exact same as against the 350Z and I was dead even with the Z28 also. I'm not saying that an LS1 can't smoke a 350Z from any speed, I'm just telling what happened in the 2 races I had. I now have a 2002 Z28 as well as my TA (which has a cam now) and the Z28 with only cat-back and lid outruns my bolt-on/cammed TA on the highway. My Z28 (or any well driven LS1) will beat a 350Z.

I think, however, that stock for stock a 6-speed LT1 will be about even with (or maybe slightly behind) a 6-speed 350Z on the highway. It should beat it from a stop though.

Let me lastly say that my friend's 350Z had a flatter power curve than my LS1 which definitally suprised me (even though I out dynoed him by 90 rwhp

I never raced one in my LS1 but I raced more then one in the LT1 and beat them w/out to much problems. And I have raced my Old LT1 in my LS1 and beat it without problems...lol....

LOL, damn that technology. My friend with the 350Z won't even race my LS1 after letting him drive it.
