After I sold my 97SS I bought a 99 C5. The C5 is stock except for a Halltech intake. My budies 00 SS is completely stock, even the tires. We raced 7 times, 2 from a stop and 5 from a roll (10, 25, 40, 45, 50). We were dead even from all speeds to 120.
what trans and gears are in these cars?i know m6 SS are 3.42s and a4s are 3.23s.if youre an auto with 2.73s and hes an m6 thatll make difference even with your intake mod.im still surprised you didnt start pulling away over 100.weird how you were even every race.i never heard of that happening.

Yes C5's are not that much fast ....
I got waxed about 2 weeks ago when my 02'ss WAS stock by my buddies 03' C5 (modded with a Borla Exhaust).. both of us have the T-56 and such... we left the line at the same time but he alway's pulls on me around the 85 to 90mph range...
Most people do not believe me when I say my car will give a C5 a good run for its money. It basically comes down to the driver, which I will admit, I am not that great at driving stick yet. Yes, I know a vette is a much better made car but straight line wise, it has its work cut out for it against an LS1 F-body.
I don't care what anyone says, you can't take two cars with the SAME f'n engine, line them up, and expect one to kick the other's a$$?!
While the C5 may have a ~200 lb weight advantage, it has the independent rear suspension, which is not as good for drag racing as a solid axle (as was already mentioned). I think Corvette owners are probably more in denial of this fact?
They just don't want to accept that their car is no faster than a car half the price!
I am by no means knocking 'Vettes, as I would like to own one of them one day
, but I still have to give LS1 F-bodies the credit they deserve.
IMO, on the highway is the only place that a 'Vette would show a bigger advantage over an F-body when the weight and aerodynamics would become more relevant. I guess they would also out-perform F-bodies in auto-X too?!
