Rare opportunity with Gallardo
Saturday was a gorgeous day, the first in a while here in St. Louis. Close to 70 degrees, sunny, nice. I spent 5 hours tightening bolts, and waxing the Z seeing as it's been garaged under a cover for the last 3 months. I only start it once a week to keep the fuel system in good operating condition.
Finally around 4:30 in the afternoon I decide it's time to take the Z out for a cruise. Left the t-tops in because my headliner piece is taken out and it just looks weird. So I finish polishing the wheels and let the Z run for about 15 minutes before I actually drive it to help filter out some of the impurities it may have picked up during dormancy. Hit the back roads headed to my buddy's house and lo and behold, a black Lamborghini is pulling out in front of me from his gated driveway. At first I thought it was a Murcielago, then I saw the fixed spoiler. Well, I slow down and let him back out into traffic in front of me, and he gives me a look like "As if I needed your help, kid." and takes off like a bat out of hell. I gun it too and stay on his tail, hoping he pulls onto a nicer stretch of road.
After a couple miles I see his blinker go on, finally! He's heading onto a 6 lane (3north, 3 south) highway, 141. I stay glued to his tail as we round the entrance ramp, and he nails it and gets up to 60mph. I pull alongside and give him a rev. He revs back (such a sweet sweet sound from an italian car, though i've never heard an italian v-10, only v-12 and v-8.) and surges back...he's downshifted. God knows what gear, probably 1st or 2nd. I shift into 2nd at 55mph and he pulls alongside, gooses it a bit, then nails it! I'm right there with him and slam the gas, and have to shift almost immediately due to tire spin, I hit third and he's 1/2 a car up on me. but by 80mph I've closed the gap and I'm slowly creeping. By the top of 4th I had HIM by a little more than 1/2 of a car. What a rush! He looks over and gives me a nod, I give him a thumbs up and take the next exit. It was sweet considering the Gallardo just made its debut, and I haven't even seen a murcielago yet--- on the road anyway. Plenty on the showroom floors, but it's always thrilling to have an opportunity with an exotic!

Sure, lol. Last time I went to the track was on street tires.
Blazing hot day, about 97 degrees
12.32 @ 116 with a 2.43 60' trying to baby the clutch Plenty of room for improvement there.

That's right-on with the published times for the Lambo - 12.4 @ 118
Weather, production, driver, that'd make it a pretty even run alright. I doubt I"ll ever get an encounter like that (not that I'm in that league yet).

well, I'll be putting a new clutch in this week, and hopefully some decent tiresso I won't have to drive like a rookie at the track. Tires are bald as hell, and I was running at 32psi, so, with some good tires I'm thinking high 11's @ 118-120. Hopefully I'll blow out my rear end so I can justify a moser... stock rear end is still holding strong though.
