Ran into a C5 vette

It was early sunday around 6-7 am(empty streets) and Im sitting at a light. An older man(40s or 50's) pulls up next to me in what I first thought was an RX7. I roll down my windows a crack just curious. The light turns green and the guy rolls out, its a C5 vette. As soon as hes through the intersection he nails it and takes off, the car was extremely loud for a vette(my guess is headers, no cats, and the very apparent polished exhaust). I wouldnt usually risk it here but the street was completely dead, so I slowly accelerate and catch up to him. I downshift, give him a second and then floor it. Id say I got a 3/4 car jump(his nose at my rear fender). We went from a 40 roll all the way till 110, the whole way hes slowly inching on me, I ended up at his bumper. We slow down for a light. He tells me my car was surprisingly quick and asks me what I have done. I tell him just bolt ons.

A couple blocks down an LS1 SS goes flying by me and pulls next to him. They went from Id say 30 and the vette pulled him a couple cars almost instantly, so I didnt feel too bad.

Nicceeee. Wish I was you cuz I never get lined up for a race.

And when I do get lined up with S2000s, Rx-8s, and Porche Boxsters the driver is either female or 300 year old female.

Time to take chance into my own hands and find people.

Nice story but the end don't make sense.

You said he just barely beat you but then he raced that LS-1 and beat up on it. I would think your car would be even with a stock LS-1 or close. What bolt-ons do you have done?

Either way, good job.

PS- I raced a black C-5 last year and put bus lengths on it twice. I was really surprised !!!

Headers, CAI, exhaust, etc.... I can pull an auto f-body LS1 on the freeway. I have no reason to make up stories.

Maybe I need to be more specific, I can slowly pull an auto LS1 on the freeway. Laugh all you want, but bring any stock or light bolt on car to me and I can prove it.

I wasnt too close to that race but it looked like they went from maybe 20-60 and the vette had a couple cars. The vette took off and the SS took chase which was the opposite of my race.

I wouldnt say you can pull any auto LS1! No two LS1's run the same or put down the same numbers stock for stock. My buddy has a 02 LS1 with just a catback and lid and runs 8.1's @ 87mph in the 1/8! His car is very fast for what it is. Ive seen LS1 cars with headers, catback, lids, and gears not run his times with fewer mods.

One more thing. Some completely stock LS1's make 300-320rwhp. Your mods dont equal up to 300rwhp so again dont say you can take any LS1!

Youve never heard of a bolt on LT1 hitting 300rwhp?

Most auto LS1's put down in the 280-300rwhp range. The 2.73 cars are dogs on the freeway. But your right, my friends 01 Z28 3.23 auto car was pretty much dead even with me on the freeway. I started to inch above 110. The 2 other auto (Im guessing) LS1's Ive run into I was slowly pulling away from. M6's are another story.

I would have to say that for the most part, he was ahead of the vette. Not bad for a bolt-on LT1. If the race had been at a dragstrip, i'm sure the Z28 would come out the winner. Racing the C5 beyond this point, the vette will win with it's great top-end. That's how I see it, if I miss read his post, my bad.

I doubt even with your bolt ons you would pull a LS1 especially up top. Thats where they make all their power. Ive seen completely stock LS1's put down 325rwhp. My friends is an auto, 3.23 gears, and catback running 87mph in the 1/8. I doubt you run that high of a mph!

Yeah, you running low 13s should have had your hands full with a C5. Good kill!
Well maybe the C5 I raced had a crapped driver also but either way, he was no match for my car at the time of those races.
And just so you know....the 1/4 numbers on my car from last year don't really reflect how the car really performed. The first 1/8th mile was alot better than the end. Something around 8.2 @ 82 mph. So since the C-5 race was only upto about 80 or so, I can see how I beat up on the C5.
