racing pet peeves
It seems to me that city people play by a different set of rules than those from rural areas.
I had a run in with a stang the other day. We were at a light and i was behind him. we pulled away from the light moderatly and got in front of the other traffic. It was wide open in front of us and because he hadn't opened it up right from the light i thought he was going to let me line up aside of him properly for a legit even rolling start. I begin switching lanes to match his speed and as soon as i got to his rear bumper he jumps. I was in 4th with intentions of dropping it to third as i got aside of him. Needless to say with his jump he pulled on me a lil and then shut it down.
I don't know what it is with city people. To them a race is just driving fast in traffic and if you can pass someone you won, even if they weren't racing you. Where i'm from people will get side by side, match speeds and then race. Even if it isn't an absolutely perfectly even timed start, its still a helluva lot more fare than when someone starts without indication when they already have a car length on you, or takes a run at you.
What happened to all the nobility in street racing? When i do engage in races its to find out who has the faster car, not just to go fast and risk a ticket. If your not gonna have a decently fair start, whats the point of racing?
Anyone else notice a difference in the unwritten rules going from the country to the city?

More things people do that annoy me:
Someone is trying to match speed(which is a good thing) but they just keep creeping up in speed, and before you know it you've run out of open space and you can't even race. Some guy and I slowed down traffic on the highway to 15 mph just to have open space so i could race someone and have a nice even start, hahaha.
You finally catch a light side by side and all the other cars went through and its clear. You pull up to light and stop dead, the other guy slows down way before the light so he is still rolling when it turns grean to help his traction. Lame.
When someone(typically rice) takes a running start at you on the highway and by the time they swing out aside of you and get side by side with you they are going so fast that they could be on the brakes and still be passing you. Sort of like a ricer flyby, but its the inital interaction. Its a race of accelleration people, not can you pass someone.

rural racing= you go til one of you gets your a$$ kicked or its obvious you cant win
urban racing (philly especially) you vs. opponant+traffic+police. winner is not determined by whos in front but rather who has not been arrested, least amount of vehicle damage, still alive.

Sounds like someone watched fast and furious once to many times.

yeah i agree i had a stang 05 that i went to get beside, but instead of waiting till we were side by side, he just gunned it and i wasnt even beside him yet. but then we got to a light and it was fair, so by 60 i was far ahead. i do like races from a stop b/c then its pretty much legit.
Re: racing pet peeves
There has been alot of wrecks in philly dealin with street racing now days (damn ricers).I hate when someone boy who doesnt have a car talks **** like he has somthing and just runs his mouth till you show them whats up
Re: racing pet peeves
I got a BIG racing "pet peeve".....it was an "urban boy" who pi$$ed me off too
(not that I'm really a rural guy myself, more sub-urbs
).
...anyway, this kid in an import of some sort (something I didn't recognize.....not a Honda.....might have been a Mazda or something??
) is following me on the highway. Finally the traffic clears ahead (I mean, there was nothing for awhile) so I move to the middle, let him come up beside me, and we hit it. I smoked the guy pretty bad from ~60 or 70 upto ~120 mph, then I backed off once I proved my point. Well, we came up on a couple cars, so I moved to the left again (in front of him) and as we're coming up on a car in the middle, he switches lanes (I figured he was going to the far right) so I pegged it again, but he cut IN FRONT OF ME!??!?!
I had to slam on the brakes at ~100 mph, while he cut between me and the car in the middle lane!?

.....it was one of the dumbest moves I've ever seen.....and I wonder how people get killed in street racing
. That guy answered that question for me

Re: racing pet peeves
No one has mentioned the import guys who try to race you in bumper to bumper traffic. Then when traffic clears they look the other way and no longer want to race.
I had a guy in a Civic pull beside me on an expressway that was virtually bumper to bumper traffic on all 3 lanes moving about 30mph rev his engine and then accelerates all of 4 feet up to the bumper of the car in front of him. As if that were not entertaining enough his buddy was hanging out of the window with a video camera in hand screaming "it's all motor homey."
What a dumbass!!!
Why do they do these things, can anyone explain?
