Exactly ,

The ZR-1 is a low 13sec ride and may even tip high 12s. The New Z06 is a touch faster. Although I think the stock 305 owns them both

Yeah, I think a new Z06 is about 2 to 4 tenths and 3 mph faster than the fastest ZR1s. The ZR1 does about 180 mph and the Z06 does about 170 mph.

Yes they're definitely top end monsters, a little slow off the line though, a stock C5 could probably take one at a light for a little while at least, but not at speed.

It makes you wonder why they named it the LT5, it has nothing in common with the LT1/4 other than cubes. Super-torque vs. super-hp. - Although I wouldn't mind my LT1 having stuff in common with the LT5. Nice engine.

I'm sure with a heads/cam combo you could give him a run for his money, but from a roll you'd probably feel the same way I would next to an LS1...

The only thing that sucks is not many know how to work on the LT5 and replacement parts a becoming very scarce and expensive. That is why I did not get the clean 1990 Zr1 with low miles and got my Z. Just thinking ahead.

Deep inside though I am kicking myself in the a$$.

yeah i saw this magazine article a while back where they put a z06 against a zr1 and the z06 was about 2-3 tenths faster. then they did a top end race and the zr1 raped that z06. nice cars , but i like the zr1's more. dont remember what magazine it was but i'm pretty sure i saw it on the net.

I was taking out LS1 cars left and right too

I bet if I claimed a stock 305 beat a dumptruck some a$$plugs would still call BS...

LT1ponykilla: I have a good friend with a 305 with intake and exhaust that runs low 9's, so what?

My point is the guy was saying with a stock 305 he could outrun a ZR1 Vette and that's BS.

I raced one a couple years ago......a mid 90's model....we were at Great Lakes Dragway.....the ZR1 was somthing to look at....I was lucky enough to line up against him....I won by about a tenth but he traped 111mph vs my 108 that night....it was sooooo close! Another 50' and he would have gotten the green light....the ZR1 is prolly the BADDEST Vette ever made.

350Z

...I definaly don't pick on ZR1's of any kind.....awesome cars

you think he was serious about that dohc set up?

that would be bad as hell,

i bet there would be about 15 grand in that motor if he had done a dohc setup. but i would be upset if i only got 450 hp out of it.

still a badass vette to walk an ls1 like that.

No offense to ya, but the ZR1 came with a DOHC 350. Ten years ago there were putting the 405hp number out that today's Z06 is claiming. The new Z06 is lighter , and making the power from an OHV 350, I want to see them do a DOHC 350 now....

Yeah no kidding, the LT5 came with four camshafts on top, not to mention it wasn't even a GM engine- I forgot the name of the company that produced them for GM, although I'm sure someone around here does.

I'm sure you could get lots of power out of those things, and I'm also sure that it is in no way cheap, a rare top of the line engine will do that I guess...
