Raced my friend's sick GTP

My buddy has a bad azz 97 GTP, with the S/C 3.8 V6. He has a home depot intake, headers, custom exhaust with true duals, different pulley for the S/C(more boost!). Also has a new transmisssion with a higher stall TC. Its the only FWD car i've been in that lays rubber up to 30.
Anyways we decide to race eachother. I spin real bad when I take off and he gets his rear bumper even with my front. I start to gain on him by 50. Now we're doin 80 and I am slowly startin to pull on him. Once I get up to a 110 I have him by about half a car length.
I will give his GTP a lot of credit. Its the only FWD car that has been able to hang with my Z!

He must be pushing out a lot more boost to stay with your car.

Sounds about right, those cars can be made to run mid-low 13's with not a great deal of money invested

Very Cool race. Was his car a 2-door? I love the 2-door GTPs

Much closer to half that. GTP is 245 hp, and AronZ28 has almost no work done to his car. So 285-295 tops. And FWD has less drivetrain loss, so the GTP can produce a few ponies less and be just as fast.

I've always been a fan of GTP's. I almost bought one. They can be made to go very fast with no alot of cash. Nice kill. Im sure he has suprised alot of people.

1999 Z28 = 3439 lbs
2dr GTP - 3396 lbs

GTP is 43 lbs LIGHTER than the Z28. Stock GTPs put down around 195-200 to the wheels.

still the stock GTp's dont run any quicker than 95MPH in the quarter which puts them more than 10MPH slower than a stock LS1

1mph = 10 hp
10 mph = 100 hp

So as mentioned hes making about 100 hp over stock.

BTW only FWD to hang with your car????
Obviously you havent raced an SRT-4 yet.

Try again. Run the numbers through the calculator, you'll see about a 60 horse diff, or as I posted earlier, much closer to half the claimed "100 more horsepower". Remember, GTP is lighter, with less drivetrain loss.

They can be made pretty quick for very little cash. But they do sound like *** with that loud S/C whine, and the exhaust people put on them.

Thats what v6's sound like.. has nothing to do with the exhaust.

Also the GTP doesnt have true duals.. not possible.

My little ol GS is faster than stock Lt1's and it has factory manifolds

Sure, custom made headers and a lot of cash to make the tubing fit.

Not practical, and wouldnt work worth a damn because of the space restrictions.

Its a side mounted motor remember. Have you ever looked under there.

There is a reason why you dont see dual exhaust gtps and gs's
