Raced an 03-04 Mustang Saleen

Good thing I had just uncapped my cutout !! We want from a 65 MPH roll. I dropped it in 2nd and realized I was already at 6100 RPMs so I quickly shifted to 3rd. I had a nose on him till 105 then he pulled a nose ahead for a sec then by 120 we were dead even and we shut down. What do these "Saleen" mustang shave in them? I thought I could easily beat a 4.6 stang ?? It was a white mustang 03 or 04 style, had a OEM wide body kit/ ground effects with OEM chrome 17s or 18s and said "Saleen" on the bumper where you normally see "Mustang" . It sounded awesome though I will have to admit ! Even better than my Camaro... Did I get owned??

if i'm not mistaken, the S281 Saleen Mustangs had like 350 HP and around 400 lb./ft. of torque. Don't quote me on that, but I'm pretty sure it was somewhere around there.

If you run on average 13.5 at 102 it is quite possible you ran a Stage 1 or 2. What does this mean you may ask? A stage one is no more than a 4.6 GT motor with the body kit and wheels ( cosmetics basically ) The Stage two has a few bolt on items along with the cosmetics. Stage 3 is a rare thing that comes from the factory with a roots blower on it ( Not a Vortech ). This car is capable of mid 12s easilly.
The 4.6 99+ 2 valve in the Saleen or GT is capable of 13.8 @ 101 stock depending on all of the variables that come into play. How do I know? I used to own one that produced those times.

Anyway,
Good runs.

Mike

Edit! I just saw that was your old ride that turned 13.5
Any times with the newer ride?

No new time with the Camaro, but the only major difference is the Camaro is a manual and has mids instead of LTs. I suspect the Camaro with run faster. This Saleen souded awesome and I could see the true dual w/h-pipe under his car. Didn't sound like a normal stang. Not really loud, but just a great tone. At 120 I did start to slightly pull him again but I figure I'd better just let it go. About how much power do these things put out? It must have been stage 2 by the way it sounded. Also I know I would have spanked a 4.6 260HP V8 all over the place.

I dont doubt that, especially with the long tubes and tune.

Brad,
I have lost my mind totally on this one. Here is the low down.
Roush has the stage 1 , 2 and 3 like we were discussing. The Saleen Mustang starts out with an S281 and has a few performance upgrades over the standard GT 260 hp output in the NA version. Not sure of the HP ratings, but the S281 also comes in a SC version.
Saleen also has a S351 version thats SCed and beastly. Not sure of any hp ratings so maybe someone can chime in and help us.

sorry for the bad info.

Found this:

http://www.automotiveforums.com/t377...leen_hp__.html

Looks like it had 290hp.

He definately had dual exhuast w/ h-pipe and probably headers (and the usual CAI, tune, ect). All things being equal if my car came with 275 and his with 290 and he had all those mods and I was still able to pull him at 115-120 I'd say that's pretty good.

Saleen is interested in doing versions of the upcoming Camaro. Does that sound stupid too?
