I changed the oil today in my 94 Z28 (LE 1 heads+cam, LT's, tune, M6) at my dad's house and like any time I do anything to the car, even so much as wash it, it makes me want to put the pedal to the floor next time I go out. As I was making the hour drive back to my place I remembered that I haven't found a race in far too long; last one I could remember was an '02 GT about 6 months ago even though I am game whenever I go out. Then as I was driving on the 4 lane 55 mph country road (going about 53 because I don't get in a hurry for no reason and I was enjoying the ride) a yellow R/T Charger with black stripes down the side passed me. It was a woman driving and even though I put it in third and matched her speed of about 70 with my exhaust rumbling, it didn't look like she wanted to race. I was about to let it go but then I asked myself why anybody gets a freaking yellow R/T Charger with black stripes if they don't want to race, and it made me a little angry so I followed her and passed her a couple times for about 10 minutes until we missed the only two lights for miles and the road went to one lane. I turned around and went back 2 miles to my place which we'd passed. When I pulled into the driveway I stopped for a while thinking if I should park in the garage since everyone was gone, or park in the yard as usual, then I saw a red Z06 with 8 spoke wheels and chrome tail light covers and a yellow SRT following it pass in front of the house. I didn't think I had left rubber in the driveway from backing up, but when I got back there were a couple tracks in the driveway in addition to the rocks from the side of the driveway thrown into the yard. I caught them at the exit to the neighborhood and we were back onto the same 4 lane road. The Z06 got through the light 100 yards up the road but the SRT didn't, so we were nose to nose with no one in front of us at the light. He was a kid about 19 probably and I could head a ghetto cd playing on his radio. I revved the engine and looked at him then whooped him bad and let off the gas when I got to ~50 and saw him two car lengths back. I had cars in front of me but the right lane was clear; I heard his blow off valve hssss from back in my dust cloud and I knew he was going to do a blow by; which he did and I switched lanes and stuck to his tail when he went by. We cruised for a while then caught up to his friend in the Z06 on the same road.
Now, why does no one understand that you don't start a race from 60? You slow down to 20 then go, so that by the time you get to 70 you probably have a winner and a loser and a good race and maybe you don't get hauled into jail if a cop is there, or crash and hurt someone as you're going 110 over a hill and past driveways! But we all matched engines from 60 up to about 90. I was clearly faster than the Neon at the top end too and about the same as the Z06. We got to a light where the two lane goes left; the Z06 got in the turn lane and the SRT was in the straight ahead lane so I followed the Z06 since that would be the real race. We got the green turn arrow with one car in front of us and two empty lanes ahead, so I was ready for a blast until when he signalled and pulled into the Sheetz on the corner. I followed him as he parked in one of the spaces and asked if he wanted to race. He said "Not right now." I said "Man, you have a car like that and you don't want to race?" He repeated "Not right now." The guy in the SRT had gone straight through the light then pulled into the other Sheetz entrance. They were meeting a couple other kids there it looked like.
I wish me and the Z06 could have got to race from about 10 or 20 after pulling out of the parking lot. It would have been door to door, unable to hear your own exhaust over the other guy's, with someone pulling ahead a car length probably by 70, you miss a gear or take too long shifting you lose, a real race. How could anyone not be up for that?

 

SO,wait... Your 360-390 HP LT1 is just as fast as an c5 Z06 . Please for the love of god tell me your kidding and that you are not that ignorant. I dont think you realize how outrageous this claim is. THe z06 Has more HP then you and way less weight. He would have squashed you with equal drivers and you just said you would be door to door and your car is just as fast.

No it dont. It wont outrun a z06 of any year with those mods. Simple as that. He said he was pulling the z06 at 80. Yeah right! Bye this crap if you want.

 

if this particular LT1 car traps 112, i dont see y it cant keep up with another car that traps the same!

 

I don't recall him saying he pulled on the ZO6, but he did say "I was clearly faster than the Neon at the top end too and about the same as the Z06." He also said ""Man, you have a car like that and you don't want to race?" to the ZO6 driver which leads me to believe he never ran the ZO6.

 

Since when did C5 Z06s have 560 ~ 590 horsepower? (That a trick I call Math. )

All im saying is he cant have more power then the z06 and he weighs more but he is claiming a victory had they raced.

NO, on AVG an LT1 with H/C will trap 112, that is y i used that number. same thing goes for the ZO6, on AVG it traps 112.
just give the guy props and move on

112 is not the average for a Z06 and you dont know his trap speeds. So take your own advice and use facts.

 

You do know that he is talking about a c5 z06 rated at 405hp and the crank. Not the new c6 zo6 that is rated at 500. That would mean his 360-390rwhp lt1 would be right with it.

then WTF is the avg for a c5 Z06? i tell iu one thing, i have never seen one trap 112 myself but countless 109-111. but that is what i have seen. i have heard of them trapping 115 or so, but have not seen it.
and also there are LT1 H/C cars that are trapping hi teens/lo twenties.
