played with an rx-8

so i was leaving work today and i notice an rx-8 behind me, since i never ran one before i was curious so i take off kinda slow and he gets right on my ***. after i notice this i decide to gun it through a slight s-bend to see if he would chase he did but i kept pulling, but that was a short race from 30-60 maybe. anyway we get to a light and are both turning the same way we couldnt do anything for a while cause it just a 2 lane road, one each way but after a couple mile it opens up so i try to get around a buick that was in front of me that couldnt make up their mind on which lane they wanted to be in. so i get back in the left and gun it so did the rx-8 which was right on my *** when i punched it. it didnt stay that way long i couldnt believe how quick i just pulled away. i have an a4 which as we all know isnt the best for roll races but i put at least 6 to at most 8 car lenghts on him from 40ish to 100ish. granted he had someone else in the car with him but werent these supposed to be mid 14ish cars from what all the mags said. the funnist part was the end though cause after i had shut it down and started breaking guess who has to come flying by mr. rx8 i guess he wanted to out break me going into the merge lol.

Fly-by FTW!!

And don't doubt the ability of an A4 for racing on the fly . They still put up a good fight .

the weird thing is with them, the way their power is rated... in the auto rx8s they are rated something like 20hp less compared to the 6 speeds

Auto 212 hp @ 7500 rpm 159 ft-lbs @ 5500 rpm

Manual 232 hp @ 8500 rpm 159 ft-lbs @ 5500 rpm

What I think is most interesting about the RX8 is that with any other car, whether it's a Cavalier or a Hyundai, you can always find an example where somebody has made one fast. Even the Tiburon club has a dozen or more cars in the mid-low 12s.

I've never seen a fast RX8. Ever. Bolt-on mods are basically worthless and if you do anything major the engine can't handle it. That's ok though - you'll get the same answer any time a car isn't fast -- "it's got amazing handling so it doesn't need much power."

I drove one... they're pretty fun to drive, but the acceleration is really nothing special.

Thats because the autos have a lower rev limiter.....automatics don't like rpms.

its not like its insane amounts of power going through it... fbodys have the same rpms regardless and so do civics...

Perhaps Mazada has tougher lawyers than Honda???

Automatic transmissions have things called max rpm......its not so much the power going through it.....its the internals that don't like the sheer rpm.....like the pump.

Autos also tend shift prior to marked redline.

Yeah, but neither of those rev to 9,000 RPM. You'll note that there's no automatic version of the S2000.
