alright, well my friends dad has a brand new wrx STi. the 300 hp ones. it's supposed to be good for low 13's on a perfect launch. well, i was driving in my truck following my friend's dad to their new shop. along came this bright *** yellow srt-4 with a muffler (probably catback). well, the srt-4 gave a few revs towards the sti. they raced from about 60mph and they srt-4 cleaned clock. immediately jumping out by 2 car lengths and holding it at about 4 car lengths. we got off the bypass and to stop light. they raced again. the sti killed it off the line, but the srt-4 quickly caught up and blew it's doors off again. funny to see what was the ugliest car in american compact history, take out one of the japs finest.

I believe you, but going by all the times I've seen, it should not happen.

The STI traps 103 mph in the 1/4 mile. The SRT-4 traps about 100-102. The STI should have won from a roll and from a stop. If the SRT-4 had work done, and it sounds like it did, there is no reason to keep the SRT-4 from winning.

I personally like the srt-4's more. They are better then people think from a roll. I would take one if it was given to me.

I'm sure the srt-4 had some stuff done to it. like i said, it appeared to have a catback, probably downpipe too. had a loud BOV, so my guess is that he had many little bolt ons. but i have seen stock srt-4's edge out evo's from a roll. i think the srt-4 is ugly still ,but hey it's onlyt like 21,000 compared to thr evo and wrx price or 30,000 +

srt would need more then a catback or muffler to do that to a STI...STI in some cases is a full second quicker stock...or it was just a really bad STI driver

well, from a stop, you're right... the sti is a full second faster almost... car and driver tested 0-60 at 4.8, but keep in mind that an sti from a roll (5-60mph test in car and driver) ran a 5.3 which is equal to the 3800 lb GTO that will run mid-higher 13's. from a roll, the stock sti is only about 2 tenths faster than a completely stock srt-4, but it wasn't all stock in this instance.

Good summary, and I like the fact that Car and Driver tests rolling numbers. Takes the traction issue out of the equation.

Traction is a real world issue, but knowing the 5-60 time helps to understand the HP of the car, not just the off the line jump.

correction on the rolling numbers. the gto and STi in 5-60 both do 5.8, not 5.3
