Just picked up the 03 cobra and was getting on the highway.(I'm in front with the f-150 and GN on the trailer)My dad is following behind in the 03 cobra with pulley,exhaust,cai.A new yellow vette with black rims passes us very fast.I couldn't tell if it was a z06 or not but non the less it was a new vette.My dad goes right out after and in secounds they are both gone.He said the vette was driving around 80 the whole time and switching lanes while passing.After about 10 minutes my dad is waiting on the side of the road with his thumb up. As he appoached the vette about 3 car lenths the guy floored it (must of seen him coming) not having anytime my dad just left it in 5 th gear and right away was pulling on the vette.He said they raced from 3000 to 5000 which is about 80-85 to 120-125 and the vette let off b/c he was up to his door. Really he said it wasn't close at all.The cobra is just a bad *** car.

so ur telling me atleast a c5 vette couldnt run away or even hold a 3 car lead with the jump on an 03 cobra in 5th gear?

guess i better tell my dad to sell his c5 and get an 03

Dam say what you want I just posted what happened.5th gear..... man you don't have any idea.This will stomp all over a c5,I don't see many c5 pulling 119 in the 1/4.I hate mustangs as much as the next gm guy but this is a different car.
The car is a 6psd and no the vette couldn't hang.Maybe it was a auto hell I don't know it got beat and thats that.Even the vette guy gave him a knod when he slowed down and went by.No bad feelings or nothing but some of you guys that think our gm's are o-holy are wrong.

Good run. Granted it more than likely wasn't a Z06 though. My friend's dad has a stock '98 C5 and I think it really hauls ***. If the Cobra will waste a stock C5 then I damn sure give it props.

 

I have seen many Cobras run low 12's with few mods but to pull from behind in 5th gear just seems like it wouldnt pull very hard. I know that a Cobra with the mods listed would hand it to a C5 in a drag race but to out power one like that it must be one hell of a car. I am not biased either because parked right beside my Camaro is our Mustang Daily driver.

 

I wouldn't have thought either.I had him do a 5th gear at 3000 run and the boost goes right up to 14 and it just pulls.His other car is a 99 SS with mods and this will kill it.More race stories to come.

I don't believe that it will pull like that in 5th gear. I used to drive my dads c5 all the time and with that ls1 85-120 isn't a bad spot for those cars so he must have been racing the 03 in 6th gear or something. I think the 03 would pull it but not that hard in 5th.

 

I know there are some 03/04 cobra owners that roam this board that might want to shed some light on this?!? Not many cars will pull from behind in 5th gear, when 5th gear isn't the optimum gear choice... just my opinion

Either the guy in the Vette wasn't racing, or someone is telling a tale tale.

 

Both guys don't know how to drive (no offense), if the race happened like you say. If the Cobra is pulling in 5th gear, then the 'vette was also in the wrong gear. 80-120 for a vette is 3rd-4th gear territory, and it would walk all over a Cobra in 5th gear, if the vette was in the correct gears. Sounds like a totally messed up race.

Even if your Dad was unprepared for the 'vette to jump, he should still have known to downshift.

'03 Cobra's can be VERY fast, but 5th gear whoopin on a vette from 80-120? Come on.

Considering that 5th and 6th gears are overdrives I must say that this is a story sorry. Maybe the person in the C5 punched it in 5th also? Ok now I believe the story, sorry for the remark
